Its officially out! See the Honda website! powersports.honda.com
Hopefully there will be a non-DCT option.
Don't discount the DCT until you ride it. Its a great system. I've got an NC700X DCT and its my favorite around town bike, just because of the DCT.
About time Honda. Love it
I've ridden it. I'm old and very set in my ways.
Is there a non-US version (I've only had a quick look)? It won't let me submit without a zip code, but here we use post codes!
Edit - I've just put in random numbers, and it accepted it!
Not to discredit, but Honda's global website is the only non-media source that mentions a release timeline. And its mentioned for Europe, released within 2015.
Now that the bike has been officially announced I think it's time to start a new, fresh thread based on the official name containing hopefully mostly relevant information.
Yes - thank you - the other thread needs to die
wonder what the model code is.... SC70?
Indeed it does... as people were even arguing that Honda would NOT use the term Africa Twin in the name.
Like Honda was going to let that go
That thread has devolved to downright stupid.
CRF1000L Africa twin name makes sense from all angles.
This was posted today:
"It is expected to reach U.S. dealerships early in 2016."
There are some differences in these drawings vrs the bike that was shown.
Note the sweet side-stand
I'm guessing the drawings are what the final revision will look like.
Either way, this bike has hotness written all over it!
Knowing what can and is done with LED lights these days, I'd like to see and integrated LED driving light bar/strip incorporated into the fairing.
I expect to see alot of this in the future in bike designs.
Cyclops can provide LED replacement bulbs w/ many offering external LED lights, by why not leverage built lighting technologies (like on the 1290 KTM)?
I look at the headlamp inner or outer trim piece and see a future added daytime running light LED ring there.
Too many bikes I want and not enough $$$$$$$!
I wonder when will the official press first ride and unveiling will be? How about the technical specs?
I'd expect the specs will be released when it's shown in final form.
The True Adventure is just a marketing teaser piece to keep the excitement high. It worked.
As for showing, the indications are a fall release in Europe so just before.
Might even be an independent showing event not a bike show.
Eicma is Nov. too late
Intermot is early Oct. so that makes sense.
Aimexpo is just after Intermot so it could be found their for the US release purposes.
Mfg. are using Aim more and more as the premiere N.A. MC show.
Then Sept is a busy times for mfg showing bikes at one off releases who don't want to get lost in the bike show mix.
I'd say the new Africa Twin is 100% complete and locked as a design at this point w/ maybe some FI tweaks but that's about it.
What you see in those drawings is what you will get. Honda probably had the final look finished before it showed the True Adventure but held back showing the finished bike to further create excitement on the look.
At some point Honda will start production and have them ready for dealer just after they show it.
Expect a possible "leaked photo" to appear before the release, but Honda does hold it's cards tighter than others and may not allow it to be "leaked".
This shit is all VERY thought-out, planed, timed, & choreographed from Honda whether people understand that of not.
Anyone think the Dakar bike re-entrance was just a fluke?
I'm happy they are finally in for the win!
So from now on i sleep in work :-D :-D
