I wouldn't want to ride on it all the time, but it is always nice to have new challenges and no broken bones.

I have japanese ECU on a bike and thinking about the exhaust system.
Is it worth to get like a delkevic slip on, or full system and EJK?
Does it make any difference, with japanese ECU?
Some say it does and others say it doesn't. For starters I just thought to buy only slip on.

Exhaust change would be weight savings also.

I realised the the jap ecu works much better with stock exhaust after I fitted a fmf pipe

I have been a little obsessed with the CRF250L Rally lately. It looks so cool. I just wish it had a more highway friendly motor.

I think a similarly priced CRF Rally with a 400 to 650cc, counter balanced, fuel injected thumper would sell well.

Have you tried it with slip on, or full exhaust? I read the best solution was stock header and slip on with jap ecu.
I'm thinking now to just get slip on exhaust for the weight and sounds.

    Sacarrry!

Haven't been out further than the shops since the lockdown began and I now have to take the car all the way down to GlosBoy45 territory for new tyres. It's a great road from Ledbury to Gloucester when there's no traffic, like today :clap

What's the betting I get stopped by the law and asked where I'm going...course, could be worse, I could get stopped by the law for doing twice the speed limit :-)

So, didn't get stopped by the fuzz. Doubled the speed limit (50mph) in many places.

Arrived at tyre depot with shot tyres smouldering.

Had brand new round, black things fitted at each corner.

Haggled price back down to the on line advertised price.

Drove home, wondering why the car was weebling all over the road on the 100mph corners (50 limit remember).

Stopped 4 miles from home and checked the pressures.

Sure enough, they were bang on.

However, the tyres were not what I ordered.

Ordered high performance ones, got Eco ones fitted...

Correct ones being fitted on Monday :hmmmmm

Nothing to do with bikes but next time you get new rubber fitted, check the rubber as well as the receipt :-)

The motor is plenty highway friendly, if you’re happy with 60 mph most of the time. I’ve ridden mine over 12K mountain passes and only had to shift down to 4th gear once.

Agree...I've had the same experience. Our Cascade mountain passes are, at most, not more than 5K-6K and if I didn't shift, the bike would bog down and die before I ever got over the pass. To maintain any kind of highway speed and not get run over, I'm usually in 4th by the time I get to the top...and I'm only 155 lbs.

I love the looks of the bike and the price, but I think in an ADV bike I would want something that would cruise comfortably, in 6th gear, at 75 MPH.

I just wish the displacement was bigger, which Honda could do at a negligible price increase.

Something like 90% of those sold probably went to countries with less than perfect road networks and with the state of the UK's roads at the moment, I include us in that. The far east and Asia see bikes smaller than the Rally with five people on board chugging along happily over pot-holes and deep, foul mud on the way to or from the markets.

Some of the videos on here from guys who use them seriously off-road in such places rarely see speeds over about 50mph and then not for any distance.

You could do the 300cc motor swap and get a great bike at almost no cost.

I swapped a KTM 450 EXC Racing for the Rally and I'm more than happy, although I do have the Japanese market ECU fitted which does nothing for the top speed but makes it so much more tractable and responsive below 6,000.

I have to admit, it was the looks that hooked me.

If you are going to be disappointed with the Rally's displacement then I guess you have to stop looking at it because visually it really will keep whispering 'take me home with you' in your ear :-)

This week for a ride with my gf, no problem maintaining 80 on the highway, but i wasn't easy on the bike during break in period, on long mountain passes though would be a tough one i'd say, for a lot of bikes, except for ones with close ratio gearboxes like enduro bikes, 6th gear a bit override for highway on the rally i think.

What year is your bike? From my experience, the best bang for your buck is the ECU. For the ‘17 and newer models, adding a slip on doesn’t add much performance wise, if you have the Japanese ECU. It will weigh less and produce a different sound, however.

I have '17 model. I ended up ordering a GPR Satinox Slip on for the weight and noise maybe even little more power. :)

    Interesting comparison:

    - 2020 Honda CRF250L Rally MSRP $5,949
    - 2020 KTM 390 Adventure MSRP $6,199

Also, does anyone know why I don't see the 2020 Honda CRF250L Rally on Honda's website??? https://powersports.honda.com/street/adventure

If $$ is the issue, look for dealers who'll look for leftover 2018 Rallys which were going for under $5K
