i use a 120/100 or 130/90 which ever ones is available.

so it looks like my gearing is a fair bit taller then yours. and my tire is larger too so even more "effective gearing". this could indeed explain the fuel economy

samtech is correct. you are not suppose to flat foot both feet on a dual-sport/dirtbike . infact i remember seeing a nice video on ergo's and the guy explained that, just like samtech said, slide your ass over and have one foot flat on the ground.

basically i tip toe both feet, or i slide over and flat foot one side.

if you are able to flat foot your bike then the bike is too low and you are loosing precious ground clearance. that or you are one really tall person lol

That's how I get a toe down on the CB-X. I get nearly my whole ass cheek down on the side of the seat. My other foot comes off the peg.

Have anyone given this any more thought? They are cheap as chips in Oz.

    Cheers,

So what about a Honda XR650l With the CB/R 500(X) or a Yamaha fz07 engine. That could be a interesting combo for bigger/taller gentlemen.

I just ordered a 2013 Cb500r engine to begin a swap in my 2017 250 rally. It will be a long project but I'm looking forward to it! Thanks to samtech for the excel file parts list

I also have a plated CRF450x and a XR650l but they just don't do it for my dual sport needs...

Hello Gents, I'll just introduce myself here, this seems a better place than Scuttys build thread as per what Michael said so..... Basically I've been toying with building me an off-road biased parallel twin for some time now. I went out with a mate on his T500 Trummy back laning, I was on my GS1200adv and it was obviously way too cumbersome so here I am cracking on with the plan. Got me a CRF250L rolling chassis and have seen an engine on ebay. One thing that might side track me is the MT07 engine we have in the workshop that might be offered up when I get back to the UK .
Any info at all with engine fitment, just obvious things would be great although in the next few days I will be reading all threads on here linked to your three bikes, feel free to post a quick link to your individual threads on here..!
    Cheers Gents, Mez

have you considered the r3 engine in a wr250r?

or perhaps the new versys 300x? modded out with 21/18 and longer travel suspension.

    IMO both good contenders.

the mt07 engine is also a good choice but i have not personally measured it to see it if would even fit in a dual sport bike.

photobucket just changed their terms of use a week ago. they are now charging 400$ a year to host images, and they are holding my pics hostage till i pay.

i will never use photobucket ever again......

In 2006, photobucket lost over 1000 of my pics. After some back and forth, they gave me a free life time unlimited account. Then some other entity took over and knocked me back to a basic account. So I deleted a lot of my pics. Most of what I have left are there because of my write ups on forums and my blogs. If I could take everything down, I'd change to flickr, smugmug, or my google pics. I can't find, or no longer have access to my posts, on other forums to fix the pics once I change over to another pic host.

Ok, I'm making this official. Just bought a 2016 CRF250L for conversion so I am claiming #004 of the series ( 2 x N/USA & 2 x UK ) if that's ok with you three...???? I have a 'F' motor in my sights with 54 miles only covered. I'll start a build thread as soon as I get my sweaty palms on the bike which wont be for a couple of weeks yet but #4 , ironically my all time lucky number...!!!
