Awesome video, thx.. Where did you get off the ferry in AK, and what were the major points you hit up there..??. I recognized a lot of the ground you covered on the the way to Vancouver,,, good stuff!

It looks like they got off the Alaska Ferry at Haines Alaska Ferry Terminal.

Yep it was Haines. Went up and around Wrangell and checked out the McCarthy copper mine which we really enjoyed. Then down to Valdez. Then back up and over to Anchorage and the Kenai. Then up to Denalli and across on the Denalli hwy. The middle of that highway (dirt road) is where things came off the rails. We had a friend we made along the way bring us some parts and we were able to limp up to Fairbanks where we made some new friends with a garage and a place to stay. Burned up a bunch of time getting it sorted and my wife ended up flying home and I booked it back in what turned out to be four days from Fairbanks to MN due to a major tire blowout in northern BC.

Thanks! The dealer was not helpful up there. They would only offer to replace the whole final drive for huge $$$$ rather than just the damaged parts. They said they didn’t have the proper tools to repair the gearbox and it was far too complicated an undertaking. Well, it was nothing I couldn’t rip apart and put back together in an Autozone parking lot. It was a bummer to have to do it twice. First time was just to investigate and find out what I needed to buy for parts. Second time I actually fixed it. Met strangers along the way that became friends and were so helpful and hospitable. The entire experience with the FD adversity really bolstered my faith in humanity.

I had the luxury of doing my own at home. Not a big deal, I used a freezer and an oven to fit the bearing.
