Asking $90k for a bike and they can’t be bothered tidying it up? Makes you wonder what the bits you can’t see actually look like....

Oh, you noticed the hubs. Picky, picky.
Looks like its been in a fairly damp environment for such a classic.

Wellll, to me it indicates a good degree of neglect for something so precious. Even if I was FULLY loaded I’d be a little circumspect about parting with that much moolah for a machine that looks like it’s in need of a major recommissioning. And believe me, I would so much like to have that little baby!

    Bit sad really.

Someone with too much money will buy it and commission someone else to restore it and tuck it away never to be seen again.

Tut tut....he should have used some of this. Would have covered up that corrosion and any other nasties that the buyer shouldnt be able to see before buying it

I wonder if that could be used on a new addition and when SWMBO see's it you can tell that you have had that one forever.

Lorbek are a used exotic car dealer - I bet they picked this one up as part of a job-lot; I'll bet they know buckleys about bikes and based on an exhaustive 30-second Google research exercise, assume because the manufacturer went bust years ago, that everything they built is "collectible".

Have a read of the advert, it goes in depth a fair bit about the bike, certificate of authenticity etc.

I did; patently written by someone who actually knows very little about motorcycles and the G50 Matchy... I've had some interaction with Lorbek in the past; the ad does include these amusing contradictions:
"This motorcycle is a genuine original machine. The engine has been fitted with replacement factory made aluminium crankcases.
"The gearbox has been replaced with a 5-speed Quaife model.
"The 19 inch wheel rims have been changed for 18 inch... "
And so on... but it's "genuine original"....
Granted, the original bikes were proven fallible and racing by definition means making changes & improvements all the time - but when does "factory original" stop and "modified" begin?
And I think most serious racers of this era will have fitted one of Bruce Verdon's indestructible Kiwi 6-speed boxes by now...

I guess it's in how you read it. I read original to mean it's genuine and not one of George Beale's replicas.

And could he build a replica!
I was lucky enough to be at Donnington when he fired up his first RC174...
