IMG_20191006_111021604.jpg Not exactly a hunting pic but I thought some of you might like it. Has anybody seen a turkey with the different coloration like the one here? I have seen it a couple of times, these birds live in a big city park where there is no hunting so they are out and about all the time.

    Good Luck tomorrow @tominboise

Did a little public land small game hunt today to scout for hog and whitetail spots.....firearms opener is next weekend. Picked up a tiny speck of trash on the way out. Mike shot a fox and a grey within 20 mins of getting off the boat. We didn't have nav lights so had to wait till sunup, next time we will and be there as the sun comes up. Mike drug a tire out with him...I couldn't believe how much shit people dump in the woods, lake whatever.....assholes.

Savannah's first elk, not bad for a 6x7.

Probably a domestic cross breed. We see it a lot in ducks on the lakes where I used to hunt.

That's a damn fine elk - a shooter any day of the week. Congrats.

People that dump stuff should have their fingers broken.

We did not do any good today - saw one doe and fawn, and a shit ton of other hunters. So it's back to the drawing board and go to a different "secret spot" next time.

One pic of the country we were in on "the way up" today:

And a view the other direction from "the top" (not really the top, top, but as far as we intended to walk today

That is a Kenai chest holster as made by Gunfighter's Inc. It works great. I carried a S&W 629 with 6" full lug barrel all day with no problems, while also using a bino harness and carrying a packframe backpack. I also have the holster for a Glock 20 which works on the same harness. Highly recommend.

So not hunting today, but we went up to the mountain town where we have a cabin. Coming back from a walk on local trail.....I am trying to figure out how to put a hunt on this critter while we are up here....

We were up around 7000 feet today. Steady snow storm and we did not do any good. The intended prey is Mule deer.

I'm so jealous. I want to get out west and hunt so bad. Just have to find a time when seasons, vacation, and no commitments align. Hopefully next September I'll be out there.

First time ever getting something. That's my Great, Great, Great(?) Grandfather's shotgun too. Model 31.

Cleaned 'er all up. Now to look up some recipes. I involved my two year old in this, and I'm getting lectured from some family members. :bluduh

Sitting in my stand this morning before sunrise I spotted something swoop and perch on a power pole about 500yds out. First I thought it was a turkey buzzard. No big deal, there are TONS of them around. Then I got to thinking, it is too early and too cold for them to be out and about.
Then I started hearing 'hoo hoohoo'.
Dial up the magnification and holeymoley! a great horned owl. Sumbitch was about 20-24" tall. I've heard them for 15 years, first time I actually saw one! Shitty pic holding the rifle with one hand and trying to get the phone lens lined up.
