For such a shit sandwich it sure was pretty this morning. Pretty much the opposite now with the far outer bands just reaching Daytona/Ormond. Heavy down pours and the wind is ramping up.

No need to purchase wood, just get some cardboard boxes and painters tape, like our neighbor down the street. Never mind all of those projectiles laying all over the yard...

I wonder which neighbors will get to clean up giant sopping wet sheets of cardboard?

And that house looks fairly new, are window protections not standard building code up there?

I will be the one picking up cardboard, most likely..

Never heard of window coverings as part of building code, that house was built less than a year ago.

No KLRs, just poor or cheap ass people.:rofl

You'll probably have a slightly used above ground pool by tomorrow evening so there's that to look forward to.

If you paint those panels and store them correctly , they’ll last a very long time. I did that for my house in the Keys. Plywood shutters on a wood frame home are better than those accordion shutters as you actually reinforce the window or door frames... YMMV

When I was working at Sea Ray (can't remember which storm but it threatened Merritt Island in either 98, 99, or 2000) they let employees load up on 1/2 inch marine ply for cost plus 10%. I've been using the window boards I made up for every storm the last 20 years. I eventually got around to painting them to ensure another 20+ years. The big one for the picture window is going to get a round "porthole" made of impact resistant Lexan with that hurricane spiral symbol painted around it so the hole is the eye. :D

Painted (white on the inside) deck stain on the outside. Then numbered, stacked with an air gap.

son of a biscuit... you don't type that to someone who has spent all morning ignoring the storm. I had to go check it right now, in a state of quasi-shock, only to find that it isn't headed my way ... entirely... it's sitting right fucking beside me though.

My friends in the Keys made signs like that after Irma for their neighborhood and they patrolled armed to the teeth. Nothing got stolen by the “help” from Miami.... The cops stopped by once to make sure everyone had a concealed permit and that was it until the emergency was lifted and life went back to normal. For the Keys that is...:lol3

thought bout stepping up and getting plywood but wont be in the Orlando shithole next storm season.
I’ll invest in proper storm shutters for the new place in Live Oak.
I’m a bit disappointed this storm is fizzling out. Would have been a good excuse to move our timetable up if this place was damaged.
