I had this crazy idea that it would be cool to go out for a ride while Hurricane Ernesto was raging. There were a few problems with this idea, like would I be able to actually talk anyone into going out with me. Another problem was that until Ernesto made its way to Pennsylvania, it was no longer a hurricane. Yet another problem was that I too had lost steam and had no ambition to go out in the wind and the rain.

So, it turned out to be a spaghetti western kind of day.

Ephrata to the rescue!! The first Sunday of every month, bikers converge on the quiet little town of Ephrata, PA. Today would be that first Sunday, and to top it off, Ernesto had made its way north of PA leaving only a trail of clouds and a threat of rain. I had to go into work for a few hours this morning before making my way south to Ephrata. 9AM, I'm back from work and getting ready to leave when MAKMAN pulls up to my garage, BUDDYPAL!!

We arrive, and much to my surprise, there's quite a crowd!

We hit some nicely groomed high speed dirt roads on our way to Swatara State Park. There is a beatup macadam road going through the park that's got a bunch of gravel sections and big old pot holes, full of water!

TheMOABjustBLUXU - Hey, you're supposed to go through the water for a better photo op!

Well, if he's going to go around the water, I'll just have to make my own big splash picture!

It turned out to be a great day. I was out a bit longer than I'd anticipated but I still managed to get the retaining wall built. I need to backfill to make sure it won't go shifting on me at all.

The puddle pic definitely came out well. Now if I could figure out how to keep the BigMak tank bag velcro from busting loose on those potholes in the State Forest. :eek1

Bring on the rest of the pics! :clap

The ride continues down miles of great dirt roads. Unfortunately, he hit a rock and nearly ripped his skid plate clean off!

With a little help, he had what was left of his skid plate off and bungy corded to his tail rack.

With the Mak confined to road duty for the remainder of the ride, we headed for food and then home. An easy 160 mile day.

Already got the parts list from the parts fiche. Reparations to the skid plate will be underway on Wednesday when the dealer reopens after Labor Day holiday.

Thankfully there ARE a few BMW parts that aren't an arm and a leg.

Thanks for leading today Terry (not2fast). We hit a bunch of stuff I hadn't been on. The Swatara State Forest is a good run as well.

Great job with the camera Nightstalker...looks like I didn't douse you well enough on the first set of puddles. Most of the pics were completely in focus.

    Yo Buddy pal.

Sorry i couldn't make it today but with Godsmack playing Philly I picked up the boys at the tweeter center @ 08:00 for the drive to south jersey where we road at some guys farm who had an awesome motocross track in the yard. It was mucky to say the least but once we had a grove going it was awesome, Well that was until AA rider MIke Bradway went to pass me and thought i was taking the outside line but i cut to the inside line and BANG i was on the ground with a big bruise on my wright leg. We were 3rd gear ready to clip fourth when i was on the ground. Good thing it was sand. I'm sitting here with ice on ti now but I'll be fine. Oh well!!! I'll be back

Wow!! What a blast... when I think of all the fun those cruiser guys are missing... it makes me glad I'm on the right bikes

For the 12GS, you might want to look into getting TwoHeadlightErnie's excellent skidplate. He's in the Vendor forum. The front end is angeled up so it doesn't catch on rocks.
