This is ADV, folks, right here.
Killer Seafood, my fav place to eat in Mex Bch, has been reported as “destroyed.” Hope they rebuild, and somehow hang on to that low-rent seafood shack vibe they had going on there. I’m afraid most everything’s gonna get rebuilt “bigger’n’better” and Mex Bch will lose its feel. Got some good memories in that little town, Wifey loved the place too.
Sunset Inspection, January 2016. $60/night for a room overlooking the Gulf, hell even a KLRista can afford that.
I hope they keep the small town vibe as in the Keys that has sadly changed and not for the better...
We have attachments to MxBeach that are interesting: is it the best beach in FL? Not by a long shot. Pcola, Navarre, FWB Eglin, south Walton, Grayton, & most of PCB are inarguably better beaches. MxBeach has always been the mutt of Panhandle beaches. A lot of folks found that compelling. I did
Didn’t know it existed until yesterday and now I may never get to know it.
I can’t add anything that the pictures don’t already show damage wise but it’s terrible. That whole area is going to go through a lot of “change” in the next few years.
Yea verily. Like Bob Dylan said, There is nothing so stable as change.
Doesn't mean I hafta like it, though.
Sunset inspection last month, Mex Bch.
For you who wont get to see this again or ever: one of the finest sunsets in CONUS was to be had rolling west on 98 into Mexico Beach, wintertime especially. The curve of the land, the thoughtfully-planted non-indig Palms, the lack of Condo Canyon shadow. Just a superb sweep of coast, road, & humble cottages, dominated by the welcoming El Governor hotel, in all-caps. This was a place to pull the car or bike over on the shell shoulder and simply SOAK it in, dig.
This was Mexico Beach in my lifetime.
So much of the destruction I'm seeing over there reminds me of what it was like being in Homestead back during Andrew. Crazy life altering stuff.
Some of the finest sunsets I ever recall was back in high school.
I was working as a roofer with an old buddy and we got a gig doing about five or six houses in Mex Bch over the summer. We’d take a mid day break because it was so hot but be back nailing shingles late afternoon. On the roof of those houses as the sun fell.... spectacular to say the least. Hopefully it’s rebuilt in the same fashion as it was.
@Chicken Helmet any word about Powerhouse Dragway? Not sure if it was even still operable, but that dip in the left lane going through the traps could have used a little fill in
El Governor lookin a bit bent’up for sure.
You FFs Up there that are not afraid to knock on doors and sign people up for a roofing contractor can earn a decent yrs. salary in the next month or two. The easiest pitch I’ve ever done. The commission on one roof is anywhere from a grand to $3500
I’d be up there already but my medical situation won’t allow it.
What about the rest of the house
Just, damn. Don't think that's gonna buff out
Nope. Fuck, but there has been some good news trickle my way today
Ya’ll fittin to be bruddas.
Got to move to the outskirts where only shingles were blown off. That's where the easy money is.
That's why YFFs are digging in the sofa for gas money to make a Natty Lite run on the KLR.
Same person whose post I shared earlier, this is their home.
