Good observation - I hadn’t noticed that. I suspect that the excessive heat was probably generated by the failure. The dealer noted that prior to the teardown, the engine started normally but then would quickly fade as it heated up. This seems to consistent with frictional forces building rapidly and leading to rapid heating.

As for engine care, the oil is regularly changed with Motul 5100 (approximately 3,500km), and has never ingested any dust (airbox is squeaky clean).

The engine had always used oil from new and was an issue I raised with the dealer just before the failure. Again, I can only speculate but I think my run in procedure (basically by the book) was too gentle. This time I have run it in hard and will be interesting to compare.

The harder the better. Bang that thing off the rev limiter in the first pull through the gears. Mine uses zero oil.

    That’s how
That’s how I bought mine. Zero down and I pay $214 a month. With the gas I save I figure It’s costing me about $100 a month to own it. Not counting the farkles, that is. Shoot brb, time to drop a hot one!

The signals are plug and play yes, 1 or 2hr job and most of that is taking stuff apart. Highly recommended mod.

    IMS Tanks available March.

"I’m very sorry for the delay in returning your email below, but yes, we are producing those auxiliary tanks for the Husky 701 model. Those tanks will allow you to gain an additional 2.5 gallons on your ride, and the setup would cost $625.00 (USD) plus shipping. We’re finishing up those tanks now, and we’re hopeful to have some ready to ship out by mid-March. You can place an order for one now if you’d like to, and I would just need the following info in order to do so..."

Bummer. I was hoping to go this route, but IMS never replied to my email so I just pulled the trigger on a Rade tank this week (which I'm sure I'll be happy with).

Are the 2018’s and 2019’s identical?
I’m also in the market. The ‘19s are going for about 12k in Texas.

I think the only difference might be BNG. Dunno if Husky fixed the slave O-ring debacle.

It ain't the "pussy part" that's holding me back. I already have 4 bikes in the garage now. I keep thinking it's time to thin the herd...
Had 5 before. It's like playing "motorcycle checkers" every day. Sometime's it's just a hassle to get to an "inner" motorcycle. They're all on battery tenders, btw.

Anyone know the difference between 18s and 19s?? I also heard they plan to discontinue the 701 which is weird because they can’t even keep them stocked at dealers.

I remember a post saying it was a faulty seal on the battery cover. Mine went through a couple heavy rain storms only to fail after a water hose in my driveway. Traded the soggy one for a new one; fortunately replaced under warranty, but it took a few weeks to get a new one.
