I kinda love that, despite the proliferation of CAD, the best way to make something look good is still giving a bunch of Industrial Designers a mound of clay to fuss over.

    Norden 501 -

    https://www.advpulse.com/adv-news/husqvarna-norden-501-adventure-bike/

"The documents, presented by Pierer Mobility Group (KTM and Husqvarna’s parent company), list a 501 adventure bike that will likely share KTM’s new 490 parallel-twin engine, not the thumper motor currently found in the Husqvarna FE 501 Enduro. It is also believed this new line of mid-range Husqvarna adventure bikes will carry the name ‘Norden’ like the 901.

In addition to the Norden 501, there will be a 401cc adventure model expected to share the same ambition and single-cylinder engine we know is coming in the budget-minded KTM 390 Adventure, though we wonder if Husqvarna won’t spin a more stylized version that aligns it with the distinct, edgy look of its first-ever road bikes, the Svartpilen and Vitpilen."

This is a real unicorn teaser. 65+HP? under 400 lbs fueled? 250 mile range? 32 inch saddle? no Orange paint? oooh

At that point I think I'd still rather have a 690/701. They have 65+ HP and are quite a bit lighter than 400 fueled.

    The KTM 690 Enduro R is powered by a 690cc single-cylinder, which produced 59.2 hp at 8,200 rpm and 43.4 pound-feet of torque at 6,800 rpm.May 15, 2019

That's HP at the wheels, kubcat, not claimed crank HP.

Definitely a more valid measurement but not comparable to manufacturer-claimed figures.

690 needs exhaust & cone filter for airflow to enable 4th gear wheelies .. don't know about hp but it has big affect, stock feels (and sounds) like lawn mower.

Well, for my skill level my 701 with an Arrow exhaust is more then enough.
I shit my pants when the front wheel is more then a foot off the road :lol3

I'm guessing it wil spec out about the same as a Tiger or a slightly subscale Africa Twin (an Africa Twinlet?). How can it not? If the CG is lower than the Tiger (again, how can it not? :D) it would be exactly the bike i was looking for, but somehow, I'm entirely unable like the looks. I try covering one eye, squinting, turning my head sideways, but I just can't see it passing the all-important 'go out to admire it in the garage at night' test for me. Which is a pity, since I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic machine.

That's a great indicator, all you need to do is tone it up to twelve o'clock and you know exactly when to tap rear brake :lol3

Also exhaust alone makes 690/701 alive.

I've been on the verge of trading my 1290 for a 790 for months, but this week I'm kinda of the opinion of hanging onto the big girl and waiting for the Norden....

The Norden 901 makes my pants tight. It looks effing handsome.

Based on those pictures, I'll take everything I see with the exception of the soft luggage. I already have a rather capable setup from Mosko Moto.

All that said, however, I'm still buying a 790. Why you ask? Well, the 790 is seemingly a dirt bike that is comfortable doing highway miles and riding on the road, while the Husqvarna Norden 901 makes me feel the other way.

And for what it's worth, I find the 790 only moderately handsome. It gets the nod because it's currently available and it does the thing I want better than anything else out there.

Let's just call it like it is. The 790 has a nice mid section and tail but the front end has a face only a mother could love and the low slung tank protruding out both sides makes it look fat.

    :lol3

It's a bike I enjoy riding much more than I enjoy looking at.

    Bingo.

For me, it's a tool that's very, very good at doing the thing. Though I don't think the 790 ADV R is that homely. The high fender gives it a handsomeness in its utility. The S, however... :puke2
