12k is a lot of money for that bike.

It's £400 more than a KTM 790 Duke in the UK, which is completely crazy imho. I think the marketing department at Husky will push the Vit as a boutique bike for well healed urbanistas.

It's a striking looking machine with some nice details and the finish looks good too. In the UK at least, KTM have dropped the 690 Duke R with the adjustable suspension, I wonder if this is meant to push you towards the Vitpilen 701.

Yes for that money it needs another cylinder or two.

I'm seeing lots of new 2017 690 Dukes going for $7500 locally - add $1500-$2000 in suspension upgrades and you're there.

So $2,000 in suspension upgrades changes the appearance ? :lol3

The irony is that people will gladly fork over $12k for a 701 Enduro or Supermoto, the Vitpilin's long legged cousins.

I'm really interested to see one in person, but will admit the price does give me pause. No more pause than spending that same amount on the Enduro or Supermoto though.

It's not cheap, but it fills a unique niche in the market. A proper, lightweight, high-spec cafe racer. There are literally no competitors. At that power-to-weight ratio, I'm sure it's a blast to ride, who cares if it only has one cylinder? Husqvarna can't keep the 701 Supermoto in stock and it's basically the same price...

As far as the 701 Enduro goes, stop thinking and just buy one.

The elephant in the room is the KTM 790 Duke, which is cheaper, more powerful and has a whole load of other goodies too. I'd choose the Duke.

I guess it depends on if you like the looks of the Vitpilen. Other than the suspension & styling, they are pretty much the same, right?

The riding position is different as well. IF someone likes the styling, that is a big difference. I'm sure the numbers built will be less than the 690 Duke, so lower production affects the price as well.

I'm mixed on the looks - I've always liked the 690 Duke, and would have bought one if the US got the R version. :bluduh

Went to the Husky dealership yesterday in Ibiza with a buddy to pick up his 701 Enduro.

Inquired about the Vitpilen and they were assembling the 401 on the warehouse a few streets down, expected to have the 701 about 2 to 3 weeks from now. Sadly I was short on time and couldn't go.

Just as I was walking out, the salesman says "But please take this brochure with you and visit us a week or two from now!" :D

I think the main selling point is that aesthetically the bike is alone in it's class. Nothing looks like it.

It is pretty. But is it 10215€ pretty?

It's a tough buy, considering that for 10k you can get any bike you want used and for 5k you can find any middleweight bike in perfect condition.

Hell, Yamaha mailed last week asking me to come take a look at the MT-07s used for their test fleet, all with around 1000km for 5799€ with full warranty. That's nearly half the price!

There were some 401s at my local dealer, two were demonstrators. One with clipons and one with high bars.
They both felt incredibly small when I sat on them.

That Honda costs £11,300 and is a different beast altogether - think Triumph Speed Triple.
