    10 days in Death Valley.

    Wanna go for a ride?

You can go if only you believe...

    Well I've ridden alone

I've ridden down this long road

Some ride alongside for awhile then go

I think back on them as the days go by

The roads we took were different in this life

We once drank from the wine of youth

    Then it was gone

And when a desert takes your heart

The only thing left is a song

There are plenty of the bad times that I've had

Seemed to last so long while the good ones went so fast

But the best times I remember them most of all

    They'll stay with me forever

There are some friends who've ridden along with me
They'll be there 'til the end of the road

But in the middle of the night
When you're alone with the pain-
Sometimes it's not enough and you're on your own

    Some of those moments
There's just one thing that saved my life
And as the sweet muse sent the music
I held onto my dreams all night

I've seen the morning break in Butte Valley

The winter stars above Death Valley snow
Everything in between, well it's been a long ride
Wouldn't trade anything under the sky

    Thanks for reading, all!!!

This is a trip that almost didn't happen, I'd had the Sacramento Death Cough for a week and could hardly breathe, even had to change out a tire on a day that I called in sick at work, but I set out from home anyways.

I took the same old shortcut between Hwy 88 and 395.

    Kept hammering south.

    Last gas in Big Pine.

North Pass dropping into the mysterious Saline Valley.

    Seven miles to go.

I set up camp near my old friend Sacramento Dan, he has a good pulse on the camp and when the fun stuff is going to happen.

Georg and Ria are here this year, camp hosts and that means there will be a book exchange in the bathroom, snagged a couple of books.

It's been a good day, the cool air feels good in my lungs.

Saturday is the big golf tournament, 5 holes...you get any club you want as long as it's a 7 iron and you're assigned one ball, lose it and you're out, cheating is encouraged and improving your lie is required.

Joel brought the big 5 ton up to show off.

    Hi Kelly!! :wave

Sunday is the big softball game at the lower springs, but I'm just going to stay around camp and relax. Jim and Dave are packing up to head home.

See the blue Ford in the background? It belongs to Giff, he's about 80 years old now and he broke a tie rod end on his way in this year.
He forced it back together with a jack, tied it up with bailing wire and duct tape limping into camp.
A feller with a booster thing allowed Giff to call out to order some parts and Giff's son would drive out to get the parts.

    See you guys next time!!

Time for the big potluck!! Sorry for the blur. :cry

    Another great day.

Erst, our hot springs pastry chef made two huge black forest cakes for a birthday party.

Looking forward to the rest of the report. Jim and Dave left a day early for some reason. Guess they could only stand so much fun. They had a great time camping.

0700 Tuesday morning, I have exactly 5 hours to get somewhere that is a very long way from here.

    On the move.

    Starting up Lippincott Grade...

I'm a little tail heavy and have pulled a few wheelies that frustrate the hell out of me. Right here I gave a good thought to going back down,
then take the South Pass so I can keep my high noon appointment. I different look is all I needed, it's almost flat right
    where the bike is sitting.

Raw unedited video, yes it's that steep and yes the dropoff is exactly like it appears.

I've caught this van several times and stopped to let him go, but there is one more good rocky stretch coming up
and I need some momentum. I got right on his bumper and hollered a couple times, he waved me up and apologized, no need for
an apology, you were concentrating too...I just need a little more speed for the upcoming rock garden.

    We made it!!
