The forecast was clear skies and sunny but it was still 27ºF…

Wallace bridge was built in 1909.
Here is a website listing historical bridges throughout the US,
linked specifically to bridges in AR. http://bridgehunter.com/ar/

The temp at this point was about 33ºF and that is frost on the bridge.

After I crossed Wallace bridge, I head in to the Ouachita National Forest.

I came out of the NF on to scenic AR Hwy 7. I traveled south on Hwy 7 and headed back in to the NF.
On this trip in to the NF, my F650GS became an Ice Cutter…

At this point, I figure I need to straighten my life out.

Hwy 7 offers so many places to ride the dirt or the twisties. A fellow could hide out, er… hang out here for a long time.

Well it’s time to quit pretending how bad I am and head home.
I believe it’s time for a bubble bath.

Flexible lights, may be my next farkle...

That F250 has a gas burning V10 and gets 12-14 mpg. So the truck stays home and the F650GS (60mpg) is my daily driver. :clap

I have done a bit of riding through the National Forest on my KLX300, and only a little on my 1150GS. I started at Williams Junction (tr 132) and ended up near Danville (tr 67). I live in Sherwood too. Give me a shout if you want some company on your next ride.

Nice report. If you like bridges, why not go to the MacDaddy of Arkansas bridges, Beaver bridge?

It is a one lane, wooden deck suspension bridge. Very interesting and in a nice location about 10 miles north of Eureka Springs. Rumor is, they're going to tear it down. Bah!!!

Hey Y'all, I wish I had more to offer but I don't... I'm just poor ol' working stiff that steals away when he can and I rarely have time to plan trips. I usually just take them.

With that being said, I have posted a link for a New Years dual-sport ride up north of Morrillton, AR. I haven't ridden with these guys but from what I heard/read the trip will be a blast. I won't be attending but don't let that stop you.

I haven't invested in GPS (yet) and have relied upon this website for info on the Ouachita NF. There are some maps, camping info and of course the rules of the road.

    http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/ouachita/

Next fall, I plan to ride dirt from west Little Rock, AR all the way to the Oklahoma state line, on my way to meet up with the Chain Gang, www.f650.com.

A couple of weeks ago, me and a buddy, on a GS500, rode Push Mountain Road, north of Mt. View, AR. There are some great roads and trails to ride up in that area.

Hwy 187 on the north side of US 62. Just west of Eureka Springs. Look for signs to Beaver access. There's a bed & breakfast right there as well. If you like camping there's a Corp of Engineers park right next to the b&b. Great roads, paved & gravel within spitting distance from Beaver. Come visit again.
