I love bikes... I love to ride...
I love to get together with riders and chat about bikes, favorite routes, past trip experiences, good or bad memories and make a future riding plan or two...

BUT at the same time, for the love of God; I HATE GROUP RIDES!

Time to time, I can understand the urge of riding with a "buddy" or two but riding in a group of 10-15 or more bikers following each other like ducklings? God, I hate that!!!

So; here's an idea (actually a wish) for a group or club for those who love to ride solo like myself...

Imagine a "club/group" that promotes only a Time and Destination to its members and "that's it!"
Not a starting point, no time to KSU, no route to follow, no pre-arranged break points... Nothing!

Ride starts at your home and the KSU is the time you decide to leave your home.
Route is the road you decide to take.
Duration of the ride is completely up to you whether you arrive in destination in 2 hrs or 6 hrs is completely up to you.
Where you stop for gas or to eat or go to bathroom is again your choice.
If it's an overnight ride you can choose to stay at ground zero hotel or at your own choice of hotel.

    IS there such a group?
If NOT how about to create one?

By your definition, you are your group.

I like the idea. This is not unlike how family enduros work where people need to show up at check points based on time.

That way people can choose their speed, route and buddies but all show up at a set time and destination. For safety a head count gets made and then off to next destination.

    This sounds like fun.

Well actually I am changing the definition from "Group Riding" to " Riding to Group"... That's all!

Each biker will be riding to meeting with a "GROUP" of riders and how they get there doesn't matter since it's entirely up to each individual.
IMHO this is riding without restriction.

Some may want to find a dirt road where they can jump on boulders the size of a VW bug or cross knee deep rivers, roll in mud while others follow a perfectly paved smooth asphalt thru a scenic route, some comes thru side roads, some use interstates and highways.
At the end, no matter what, the goal is to "ride" and meet with other riders.

I love my solo overnight rides to the destinations 300-400 miles away from my home. The only downside is the loneliness I feel when I arrive my destination. Eating or drinking alone and then sitting on my own is the only boring part of that otherwise great day which I am sure would be perfect if I was meeting few other fellow riders like myself who came there to meet others.

    Check out a rally.

Pahrump is a good one, not too many attendees and great riding all around.

Most of our 'day rides' are like that. Sometimes we don't even put the word out....we ride to popular motorcycle destinations..usually a café......and there is often a few people we know there...….or we meet new people. The chat is generally about bikes or routes or trips.
We call it 'café racing'......I've been doing it since 1966......you'd think it would catch on.

That's a rally. Everyone rides to a destination arriving and leaving at differing times. Some camp, some motel. We share stories, music, food, day rides. You can go to a small one. "Lunatic Fringe" in Calgary Canada...or BMW National USA.....from 10 to 8000 attendees.

So....you pick a campground close to a town. You put out the word and dates. You have people book their own site (or not). You meet them there.

    glad to see this post!

i enjoy group rides, the camaraderie, sharing the adventure, knowing, learning and respecting each other plus the safety in numbers. if something goes wrong, there's a greater chance that we can make it to safety with the help of other riders. there's really no rule, just pure common sense, but with a sweet throttle, on one hand, no guarantee....:lol3

still not all who join the group buy the idea. they want to ride ahead of the group towards the destination. we call them rogue riders. they use the group as insurance that if something happens to them, there will be someone who can bail them out.

least, ride with someone. no one knows exactly what's the condition ahead, the skill required and when one will have a mechanical breakdown. having a spot or in-reach is secondary.
