OK, it's a week late. "Not my fault", said the boy in the corner sucking his thumb, "Covid dunnit."
I've been cooped up long enough, paid enough penances to last me a lifetime. Now I deserve a night or two in the bush, under the stars and with a river bubbling me too sleep.

Uh, good luck Doonie. Every man and his dog from non metro areas on a LOT of 4wd FB groups are gearing up to head off at the stroke of midnight tonight. Seriously.
Dargo and surrounds is going to be like Bourke St this weekend.
    Bit jealous too.

That'll be OK. I don't need much room.
...and the Pub and the store could do with some customers.

At Buller at the moment, Mansfield is like it was between the lockdowns only busier. Talbotville would be a good spot I reckon, every bugger reckons the High Country is Mt Stirling.

Rivers are running clear as a bell Doonie, I’m trying to get away next weekend but am struggling to think of a spot that won’t be mega popular. @BygDaddee’s photos around Harietville have me scratching the COVID beard.

School holidays and the first weekend of freedom- hard to know where to go but probably not talbotville. You can expect the Dargo pub to be struggling to fit within covid regulations , especially with the school holiday demand. Perhaps after school holidays?

Then again, It'll be interesting to see what happens when all the weekend crowd arrive to find out parks haven't decided if camping us allowed https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/get-into-nature/safety-in-nature/covid-19-update. I can't imagine them cleaning toilets etc to covid standards. Factor in closures at other popular camp sites like the blue pool, everywhere along freestone, eaglevale .... I think Dargo pub intends to open up their paddock to ( paid) camping , but they are restricted in numbers within the pub so you'd want to book a meal!

Briagalong is looking like a really nice place to stay this weekend

Last weekend Paynesville was a ghost town, but the boat was locked up. I have a feeling it'll be busier this weekend.....but still better than the high country

Dargo pub is opening, limited numbers seated for a meal, max 2 hour stay inside, 2 dinner sittings only.
No drinking at the bar or inside. Looks like it would be packaged booze and takeaway then.
Id reckon there'll be literally hundreds turn up expecting business as usual.

Personally, when we in AfDanistan central are allowed out, wont be going anywhere near the HC for a month or so ... will be madness.

    Doonie me old mate,
Whilst there's nothing better than sitting around the camp fire at night, having a drink and talking shit with your mates (and maybe listening to Maz sing the odd tune), are you sure you're doing the right thing?
At this early stage of recovery, the light at the end of the tunnel may still turn out to be an oncoming train.
Dr AT made a good comment about Briag.

    Surely you are joking ?
As long as Doonie isn’t breaking any rules ?

Geez, in Europe they have had a slight upsurge in cases but people aren’t shitting themselves like in Australia.
I know a woman in her early 70’s left Bremen, Germany yesterday for a week long holiday in Switzerland.
All perfectly legal over there. (And she’s not some anti vaxxer loony. She is being careful with her hygiene, but just knows that life has to go on)

But here, all we seem to do is count infection numbers everyday and run around screaming that the sky is falling.

Doonie, looks like I was wrong about the expected crowds! That opens up a few more options for next weekend - how busy was the pub?

We wandered down to loch sport / sperm whale head and it was similarly quiet - except for the mozzies :fpalm

Pretty quiet. The store was way down on what they hoped for. The track in is like a highway with a liddle bit rough down the bottom. Water in the river is perfect.
