    "Lighter is better," yes!

And you don't have to change your underwear as often after a mishap.

You know, after nearly 2 months on the road, this is my first night in the tent. I was looking for some sort of shelter.
This is not a bivacco. It is just someones little get-a-way house. I just camped next to it.
Sadly, in the morning, I saw an even better spot that I somehow missed that had a shelter and a better view.
Plus it was a little scary being so close to this guy's house in case he came home.
And there was a lot of gun fire that night. Hunters most likely......right?

Staying with my friend at his river house in Northern Croatia. This is my 3rd time here. I had the option to sleep in the house, but with a tent spot like this, it was an easy choice.

I recognized that turn as well, but the re paving kind of threw me. We have a picture from that rail above your mirror from last summer. That really is an amazing mountain shack Ed lol.

Croatia has its Plitvice Lakes. Tam and I were there years ago. Amazing place. But they want 30 Euro to get in these days......a victim of it's own success and beauty.
On the other side of the border in Bosnia Herzegovina, they have Una National Park with the same type of scenery. But it is only $4 to get in. I thought I would go and check it out.

One thing that I noticed that had changed in Bosnia Herzegovina was the number of Arabic tourist there. Many come from Saudi Arabia. The men were dressed in blue jeans and t shirts and the women covered from head to toe in those black sheets that they wear (no disrespect - I don't know the name). It is a cultural thing and I am ok with it.
But I felt it was kind of sad that they go to visit Bosnia but not the other Balkan countries like Croatia because they felt more comfortable in a Muslim country - maybe even safer. I spoke to a few of the men. They were all reasonably friendly. I also tried to interact with the women. I could see them looking at me with their eyes behind the black clothing covering all but their eyes. I would say hi to them and many would acknowledge me with a hello back. I even shook one of their hands - just to see if she would. Disrespectful you might say? Maybe. But we are all just human beings. We should all be more tolerate and accepting of our differences. I shake hands. I am in a country that shakes hands as a greeting. Seemed everyone was ok with my gestures and acts of friendship. No disrespect. Just a social experiment on my part.

The waterfalls in the last photos were 7 kms back on a bumpy dirt road. The VFR is becoming an enduro bike.
These falls were just off a paved road

One park ranger asked where I was sleeping. She said there was a fee of $5 for camping. I told her I was staying in a new Eco Lodge. This sort of confused her but she smiled and said ok.
    This was my Eco lodge

    The view from my window

Being an Eco Lodge, their roadways are "green" instead of being covered in asphalt and tar

Only a few flowers were harmed in riding up to the resort :-)

Losing that bag and your money was a blessing. Hiking and riding to those huts made for an experience you would have never had with a pocket full of money.

I use to hike on the Appalachian Trail and stay in some of the huts. It was great, but the scenery or the huts were nothing like those. Those were magnificent.

This is where the story gets interesting

If you have been following along, you will know that this European trip hasn't been exactly easy - especially so after losing half of all the money I had in the world on my first day of the trip

I have spent the last two months in the mountains and it was time to head to the beach.
    But where?
    Croatia is nice, but expensive.
Plus it is hard to find free camping.

I decide to head to the island of Brac
It is the largest island in Croatia and one that I had not been to before.

I figured that I would find a way to make it work.

The island of Brac and neighboring island of Solta have this rivalry that has been going on for decades. There is a small island between the two bigger islands that each claims to own. So every year, to decide who owns the little island for that year, they have this sort of tug a war with their boats and the winner gets the island. Well, over the years, it has turned into sort of a reason to drink some beer and have some fun. I jump on a boat to share in the fun. I posted a video to my FB which helps explain it all.

It is a party on every boat

Sailing back to the harbor of Milna

I find the best seat on the bow of the big boat

So this is where this ride report take a turn for the better (not that it has been all that bad)
I meet this lady and her two cute little girls. We talk. I tell her my story about the last few years of my life. I tell her about the bivacchi. I tell her that I am camping mostly. After some nice conversation, she asks me if I want to come stay at her place in Milna. She said she has a nice house right on the water and an extra bedroom that I could use. It would be her, her two kids and a 22 year old Croatian babysitter.

In the news this morning: Chase Bank is exiting the credit card market in all of Canada and forgiving all credit. I wonder how many Canadians bought bikes on a Chase credit card? Ed, do you have a Canadian Chase card? :imaposer
