As I remember Alex Palou only needs to finish 11th tomorrow to clinch the championship.
Finally managed to catch a full race this season on TV. Bumpy circuit but some good racing and some rookie mistakes costing title contenders dearly.
Nice drive by Palou. Deserves the championship.
Great race today.
Congrats to Herta and Palou today.
McLaughlin rookie of the year and only 52pts behind Power aint too shabby.
Doing the averages it looks like him and Grosjean were about the same on points per race.
Didn't see what happened to Grosjean in the highlights thou.
He hit the wall lightly with his rear tyre. That took him out of the race with bent suspension.
That's a bugger.
I'm looking forward to what he can do next season now.
Considering he was in a Penske, I found him to be somewhat underwhelming compared with the Romain G or the impact Herta and O’Ward had in their rookie years.
The Andretti/Meyer Shank engineering debriefs should be good next year. Wonder if/who runs the 4th Andretti car? Marco back??
Penske on the whole this year was underwhelming. Herta won the same number of races as Penske did this year.
With them presumably going back to 3 cars next year they should rebound strong.
Will be interesting to see who gets Hinch's seat. I would be very surprised if Marco makes a comeback.
Scott McLaughlin earned 19.06 pts. per race he ran. Romain Grosjean earned 20.06 pts. per race he ran. Considering the resources and histories of the two teams, (Penske vrs. Dale Coyne) I would say that Romain had the much better year.
I have no idea what the difference between driving a Supercar and an Indycar is, but I feel it would be significant.
Whether or not Scott can be a consistent podium threat in this class I don't know. Penske worked with him for 4 years before he left Australia so they must see something in him.
I only watch via highlights and Grosjean was mentioned an awful lot more on them.
The difference is enormous. He has more to learn than Grosjean, but I rate both drivers. Both will have much better seasons next year is my pick.
IMO there is some fantastic new talent that has come into Indy Car in the past couple years, love to see it.
Palou won a well deserved championship against a whole crapload of talented drivers, both the other new guys and the established multi time champions. Well done.
Looking forward to next year. Glad I started watching Indy Car again, the racing is fantastic, the talent pool is deep.
Feb 27 St Petersburg FL . 17 races on the calendar for 2022 , unfortunately one of them is the disaster in Nashville . 14 on NBC , open wheel racing in America is back baby .
Jimmie and Romain were at the Speedway today for the ROP, rain messed the program up. I think they both are 2/3rds of the way there.
