A lot of very experienced drivers have gone through the Rookie Orientation Program over the years.
    Nigel Mansell,
    Juan Pablo Montoya,
    Emerson Fittipaldi,
    Fernando Alonso,
    Jack Brabham,
    Jackie Stewart,
    Graham Hill,
    Alberto Ascari,
    Jim Clark,
    Alex Zanardi,
    Denny Hulme,
    Eddie Cheever,
    Teo Fabi,
    Maston Gregory,
    Richie Ginther,
    Donnie Allison,
    Bobby Allison,
    David Hobbs,
    Clay Regazzoni,
    & Dan Gurney.
All were very experienced at very high levels of racing before getting to the brickyard.

As the ROP was established in 1936, I am sure there have been a lot more veteran racers who have had to take the Rookie Program.

Romain Grosjean really seems to be happy about going to Andretti Motorsport.

Scott Pruett trying to convince Colton to choose Indycar over an F1 ride. Commenters on Racer article think he’d make about the same money. I don’t think so considering worldwide endorsements, but I have no real knowledge about that.

I hope he stays if given the option.

Colton is already with a top team in Indycar (Andretti Autosport). He will have Grosjean and Rossi for team mates next year. He knows the cars and the tracks.

If he looks to F1, he had better get on a very good team or he could flame out like Danil Kyvat, Kevin Magnussen, Nico Hulkenberg. He could also get bounced around from team to team like Alex Albon.

In either series Colton would have a lot of fierce competition. There is a significant depth of talent these days in Indycar with a lot of young faces coming up. The same actually goes for Formula 1.

Since he is not likely to get a Merc or RBR seat, Colton would not be in a top team. That would mean that he would have to impress enough people to work his way up the hierarchy of F1 teams to get a ride capable of competing for a championship.

So if he goes F1 now at his age he could potentially work his way up to a better car and still be relatively young. Or stay in Indy cars, win a few championships while Andretti hopefully builds a top 5 team then make the move. That would be a tough decision when you've dreamed of F1.

And an FYI, the letter is from Marshall Pruett, not Scott.

Just like when American open wheeled racing had names like Unser , Foyt , Bettenhausen , Mears , Andretti (Mario) , the lure of f1 might be waning . The 500 is once again a premiere event , hopefully young talent like Herta will stick around .

As much as I would like to see an American crash the F1 party like Jacques Villeneuve did in the early '90s, I think this probably makes a lot of sense.

I’m not saying he should go next year or nothin’, he’s young enough for a couple of more years here to become a champ first.

If Colton can get a championship in the next couple of years, which seems very possible, that could be the ticket to getting him a ride with a front running team. It will be very interesting to watch.

Nico Hulkenberg will test for Arrow McLaren SP at Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park on Monday, the team confirmed in a statement.

Arrow McLaren SP are considering eventually running a third car in the U.S.-based series, with Mexican Pato O’Ward and Sweden’s Felix Rosenqvist confirmed for 2022.
