While driving on a dirt road today I found an InReach SE. The owner information page is not filled out. I called Garmin and asked if they could identify the owner by the IMEI number.

I was told by the Garmin support specialist that they couldn't release that information due to privacy laws. I asked them to reach out to the owner with my contact info. They said that they couldn't do that either, and suggested that I take the unit to a local police station.

It seems to me that Garmin would be more interested in reuniting an owner with his/her device...:loco

Particularly when they're in the business of locating places and people.

Ya know I have an InReach and IMO since Garmin took over the whole InReach experience has gone to shit.

OP- you might look for any recent messages sent and send one to them stating you found it. Maybe they'll contact the owner.

Normally the person using the in reach that gets lost. This time the in reach is lost.

Can you send a message to anyone in it's contacts? I'm not sure how that works, but If that unit is message capable maybe that would work.

I just got an inReach SE.

An idea: Just leave it on and tracking and the owner will locate it or send a message to you?

Or you could send a message to the last person and let them find you?

Been a Garmin product owner for almost 20 years. In past the help person was always great and accommodating.

What that person told you was the stupidest answer I’ve heard.

You gave them permission to forward your contact info!

    I agree with previous post:
You would think they would contact the owner with your info and potentially get great reviews out on the interwebs

    Maybe sell a few more!

I'm ok with giving someone I've never met an email address, even a phone number, before I talk to them. I'm not OK with sharing my home address...

    No text messages in queue.

Turn it on and tracking, place it near where you found it but in the bushes where it can't be immediately seen by another passer by, and let the owner find it on their online tracking page and go get it themselves. Or since it's raining and muddy right now, do that at a local moto/UTV dealer and have them set it in the front window turned on and tracking.

I left it on with tracking turned off. Got a message on it from xxxx@telus.net stating that service would be terminated soon and to contact owner via email.

Owner is from Canada, currently traveling in WA. Mailing unit to him on Tuesday at his friend's house.

Cool it's making it's way back to the owner.

Did he know where he lost it?

He knew it was somewhere near the Jump Creek Falls parking area. He'd left it on the roof of his car.
