So I went to Iran, arranged all the necessary papers and they five days before my arrival, began to observe the age-old ban on motorcycles over 250cc. So I argued for a while and then put a kebap, bought cigarettes and went back to Turkey. I keep track of the situation and sometimes somebody has managed to switch over somewhere, but the situation is getting worse now, now they have a list of big bikes, so nobody can convince them, they don't know 250 from 1000, all the paper is written, that's true . I spent two days in Iran without a motorbike, the country is undoubtedly beautiful, we'll see how it develops, maybe I'll have to go on a second bike, which is Suzuki GN 250, at least it will be a bit more hardcore However, at the moment the situation is as it is. So I took a nice ride in Turkey back and forth in the calm winter weather, I did not stretch it to leave somewhere where they would not mind - too much freedom Photos later
Hi Just for info... I'm just back from a trip from Paris to Persepolis/Chiraz. We were, all together, a group of 36 bikes, Africa Twin, Beemers 1200/1250, so well above the regulation of 250cc. We went in and got the bikes out Iran (3 weeks ago), so it's possible, but has to be prepared well ahead with the proper Ministers. Certainly not at the border . It took us 5 hours to cross the border from Turkey to Iran...and 5 days to clear the customs back in France........ Hope this helps the future travellers to Iran (fantastic sceneries and people)
Yes, the regulation is repealed and it is possible to travel to Iran again with a large motorcycle from September. I just arrived at the wrong time. Maybe next year...
Yep I remember having seen those bikes. I'm too lazy to write anything about this month long trip from Paris to Shiraz, but it was a blast. Stay safe.
Thwarted in 2019 because of the CC limit, was part of a group of overlanders who lobbied the Iranian Tourism dept, who were excellent in their support (thank you Mehdi) which was finally repealed. Unfortunately not long after I entered the CCP virus put paid to everything. A stunningly beautiful country with amazing people. Looking fwd to returning asap.
