For rust inhibiting primer, the usual Rustkill or whatever works. But it will only work as good as your preparation. Rub the area down with Deoxidine and a scourer or some steel wool to get rid of every speck of rust. No matter what you put on it, if it's not totally removed the rust will come back and the paint will just make a nice coat for the rust to grow under.

I would avoid afterpay like the plague. Don't play if you can't pay.

Thanks for rustkill and prep advice, much appreciated. From an afterpay perspective, it has its place. I can afford to pay and play now if I choose I just like to spread my costs interest free. Suits my budget/cashflow.

Welcome to the world of rusty XR frames!
Probably the worst frames bar none for it!
You will struggle to find one without rust but the upside is that they are easy repairers!
The bad part about them is that they all rust in the same place.
I also noticed a welding repair on the bar behind the aircleaner, and when they rust as bad as that one, the stand mount breaks out And the footpegs mounts have been known to separate from the frame!
    Have fun!

My xr4 is lurking. She wishes you all well.
Not the best bike I have ever owned, but they are reliable and fun, I respect that.
