    Hello fellow adv lovers!

This is my shot at " day trippin" !
Excuse me for my weird English, as this is not my motherlanguage.

This is me:JP the 32year adventure lover:
    IMG_20210608_183052.jpg

So this trip started somewhere around July 2020....
There's a group (4 riders, me included) of friends where i chit chat with for a couple of years on whatsapp and real life. But all those guys ride onroad.....
And i am the only dirt eater in the group... well, i was untill this guy came in the chat:

Meet Cagaty: the friendly Turk on the T7.
He lives in Amsterdam, wich is a 2hour ride to my place.

    IMG_20210608_142325.jpg

Little did i know in 2020, but this guy started riding adv...
So when i found out he had a T7, i knew enough!
This guy is going to be my adv buddy!

So i copied his number on whatsapp, and took him on a " private" chat. (this sounds bad)

We started chatting about adv riding etc, and we decided to ride some dirt together.
I have a 60ish KM offroad loop close to home and asked him if he wanted to join me on that.
He obviously did, as there are NO trails to Amsterdam within and hour of riding.

fast forward: the ride was really good, and he got to play on my local playground with some dirttracks, small hillclimbs, some deep loose sand etc.

It was after this day of riding we decided we had to get a bigger challenge on our bikes!

So the plan was to ride some days in the spanish pyrenees on the TET.
    upload_2021-7-11_9-6-38.png

The northern part of spain that is.
We would also do the desert loop near Zaragoza.
That way we would have dense forest, desert, hills, mountains and all in between!

The plan was made: we would rent a van, drive it all the way to the border of france and spain at the beginning of the Pyrenees where i have friends with a house where we could park the van safely.
Ride for a couple of days, and return to the van......

    Fast forward:

    4 days before the trip.........

SHIT, spain is a red zone, and i can not afford to go in quarantine for 2 weeks and not get paid.

Change of plans..... Italy is still an orange zone and would also have mountains etc! We would even get to see snow from up close. Just no desert, but that's ok!

So we would ride TET Italy!!!!

    upload_2021-7-11_9-11-22.png

The plan was to drive the van near Genova, park it ride the entire TET to Torino, get back to the van, and ride home!!!!

Sounds like a great plan, eventhough you had to change it to another great plan.
I’m just not sure if you’re still on tour, or if you’re already back home?

Please keep us posted, love to hear more from you guys (maar voel je niet verplicht natuurlijk)!

    Allright, time for PART 2!!!

It is June 6th 2021.. Day of departure!

    9AM
Nerves are getting to me.. but that's just me, cause Cagatay is the most relaxed dude ever just before departure.
It was time to load the bikes up the van and throw everything inside the van.

    aaa.jpg

    Ready to hit the road!

We rode the van from my place to Aosta.
    upload_2021-7-13_20-42-51.png

We didn't ride the bikes at all, because this was not the place we were going to put the van.

It was a sketchy hotel on a sketchy truck stop.
At least the views wasn't that bad!

    IMG_20210606_214130.jpg

    June 7th

We would ride from Aosta to Genova.
We ended up in a small town called Carcare, cause the TET would come trough it and we would probably be better of parking a rented van in a small town than parking in in a bigger city.

    upload_2021-7-13_20-45-40.png

We found a great spot to unload the bikes, park the van and start riding!

    IMG_20210607_124336.jpg

    IMG_20210607_123614.jpg

    So, let the adventure begin....
This is what we came for!

The first leg of the day would be from Carcare to Upega on the TET.
    upload_2021-7-13_20-53-16.png

It was a sunny how day, and after 10 minutes of black top, we hit the first dusty off-road trials, full of rocks and stones.

After literally 5 minutes on the trail, we encounter our first water crossing...
It was my first ever water crossing in my entire life!!!

i HAD to get a good picture of course!
    IMG_20210607_133004.jpg
    IMG_20210607_133053.jpg

Just look at how HAPPY i am at that point in life.....
But i was going to regret doing this......

The trails were amazing, and we only did 2 of these water crossing, the rest of the day was above 1000m altitude and we would see some waterfalls and small streams, but no water crossing anymore.
    IMG_20210607_150330.jpg

    The views were great!

Some trails were really really hard to get the bikes trough, but we managed to do it, and that is what counts!
    IMG_20210607_173127.jpg

    IMG_20210607_183649.jpg

A well needed rest after a really tough section where we did 2km in about 1 hour.... it was super rocky, there had been a land slide with rocks/boulders and loose dirt....
Combine that with fully packed mules, and it is tough! But we enjoyed it allot!

After the trail we had to do black top for another 40minutes....... in the pouring rain!
That meant we had to put up our tents in the rain after a very long tough day of riding!

we finally made it to camp at Upega.... this town was very isolated and quiet.
We were the only people on the campsite, that was a big plus!
But where was the desk? and where did we pay....?

    We searched for about 15min in the pouring rain to find this little sign;
    IMG_20210607_194520.jpg

But what is a Locanda d'upega you may ask... well, we didn't know either!
So i just walked towards the village. ( campsite is just outside the village )
    upload_2021-7-13_21-11-26.png

    IMG_20210607_202719.jpg

I just walked into the little pub 9 it's behind the ' camping' sign.
And believe it or not.... but that was the Locanda d'upega!!!

There were some elderly people inside the pub and a young couple with a little baby behind the counter.
    Very very VERY friendly people..!
So with some broken english and some hadn gestures we got 2 nights on the campsite, and they told us to put the tents and bikes where ever we wanted!

So we came up with a bit of shelter unterneath a tree....

    IMG_20210607_205655.jpg

We tried to keep everything dry... but that's hard while being soaked!

And of course, after putting the tents and bikes underneath a tree, it started to thunder above us!

Hell we don't care, we just wanted to rest and get dry!

I was soaked and getting cold!
But the mood was still good and we were enjoying every second!

    THIS IS ADVENTURE!

    IMG_20210607_200327.jpg

After setting up the tents and getting some food inside our bodies, we decided to get some stuff dry.....
We went to the bar and asked if we could borrow a hair dryer.
    and guess what!!!!??
    IMG_20210608_112951.jpg

Remember i was going to regret standing it a river with MX boots.....?
I could't get them dry at all!!!
I kept doing this for literally 3 hours straight, and nothing changed.... i was hoping to get them dry after a night of sleep...
It took me 5 days to get them dry!!!

The campsite itself was very basic, the showers were dirty, and the toilets were just holes in the ground.
But we didn't mind! i wasn't here for luxery.. and the view and camping spot made it so good!

We had a waterfall/run 5 meter from our tents !!! 9 not so good if you are a light sleeper!

    IMG_20210608_091746.jpg

We even filled up the bags with meltwater from the glaciers that were higher up the mountains!

    IMG_20210608_103313.jpg

We called it a day and got ready to go to sleep!
We had a very tough day tomorrow!

    DAY 3

I had a great night of sleep, i was to exhausted to be kept awake from the thundering sound of the waterfall next to my tent!

Opened up my tent, and YEAH it wasn't raining anymore!
    IMG_20210608_090150.jpg

Put on my shoes and started some stretching and strolling around on the campsite while Cagatay was still asleep.
    the weather looked promising !
    IMG_20210608_113358.jpg

We decided to get a better spot on the camping instead of the setup we had going on now, something a bit more cosy and open!
We found a great spot a bit more uphill, and a bit more flat space to setup the tents better.
    IMG_20210609_092309.jpg

It was time to go ride again.
We knew it was going to be a epic ride, with epic scenery challenging trails, and high altitudes! (snow?)

We had a 45 min ride to the point where we got off the trails the day before.
The beginning of the trail was allot of gravel, some muddy patches and some really nice scenery, but nothing different than the day before.

After an hour or 2 we were in and above the clouds and came around a corner, and suddenly there was a big ass dog.. and a cow.
I think the cow got separated from the herd and the dog was protecting it.
That's why we took it easy... we didn't want to get bitten....
The cow was a mountain-cow i think... it did better hillclimbs than G.Jarvis....

So at my awkward picture you can see a small tunnel going into the mountain top.....
The view we got after that was breathtaking... i had NEVER seen anything like that before...

    BEHOLD!!!!!!!!

    well.... i mean... what view????

But then the clouds disappeared ....

    upload_2021-7-22_21-20-0.png
    upload_2021-7-22_21-20-22.png

The pictured aren't doing it justice... bit this was MAGIC!!!!! it was atleast 500m straight down... nothing but smooth grass, and a foggy forest all the way down there!!!

After this stunning moment we had a very challenging few kilometers to go... with very sharp rocks for km's and big rocks in between, right next to the edge of certain death!

    upload_2021-7-22_21-24-14.png
    upload_2021-7-22_21-24-40.png

This was a thrill to ride!!!

After this we had to lower our adrenaline.. cause.. well obviously!!!

    upload_2021-7-22_21-26-24.png

Still time for goofing around ofcourse!

A bit further down the trail after decending, we came at this lovely green lush hill, we had to get a selfie with both of us in it!

With some nice switchbacks... we only had about 400 this week.... ;)
    upload_2021-7-22_21-29-19.png

Came back to camp when it was getting a bit dark ( that's why this is such a pixelated picture)
And dried our clothes... or at least get them fresh!.... Wish my boots were fresh and dry....

    Day 4:

After our ride yesterday we decided to get back to the van, load up, and drive bit further north.
We could have done in on the TET, but because some roads/trails are closed because of snow, we couldn't take the TET further north.

Packed our stuff and hit the road back to the van.

    IMG_20210609_113051.jpg

    upload_2021-7-31_11-46-39.png

What would be a 20km TET trail is now a 140km tarmac drive.... plus loading up the van etc.
We arrived around 5pm, and got at a small hotel with lovely people running it!
    IMG_20210609_170238.jpg
    IMG_20210609_170242.jpg

We got 2 rooms, one on first floor, and one on the 3rd floor, that's all fine and after some rock paper scissors i got 3rd floor and Cagatay got first floor.
My view was pretty cool at the small cozy village we were in.
    IMG_20210610_083516.jpg

We decided to get a small break separate in our rooms just to have some " alone" time. and meet after 30 minutes at the bikes to get some riding done!

There was supposed to be a castle ruin and switch back offroad trail that Cagatay was dreaming of for a year, after seeing it on a yt video.

and guess what.... we finally found snow!!!!

After some fun and taking pictures in the snow, we had to get going!

We came at the ruin we wanted to see, and normally it is packed with adv riders, hikers, bloody tourist....
But we had it all for us!!! nobody in sight!!!!

No footage of the switchbacks :( but here's a nice picture with a nice view!
    upload_2021-7-31_12-3-46.png

It was a really nice ride!
And we where pretty exhausted when we got back at the hotel around 10pm.

We did went to bed immediately!
For the next day we planned to ride a bit further north again with the van to get to another mountain pass and some awesome riding!

We woke up around 8am and decided to get some breakfast.
And again, we were the only bums in at breakfast.
Not only is it great to have all the food for yourself, but the hotel manager (lovely bloke) made us some eggs and put up some fresh coffee and all the things we wanted.
We got to chat about some tradition's when it comes to food etc. That was pretty interesting as there was an Italian, Turk, and a Dutch guy at the table...
After some early morning laughs and chat we loaded our stuff into the van and continued our trip north!
We ended up at Camping Don Bosco in Oulx. ( this happened to be a very know camping spot for ADV riders on the TET etc.)
    upload_2021-9-15_20-22-49.png

We rented a cozy little wooden cabin for one night.... one LAST night that is.

    upload_2021-9-15_20-24-28.png

at arrival we took a little rest and did some minor maintenance on the bikes to get them ready for the last off-road trips!
We had planned to ride one today, and one tomorrow before departure back home.

    The very last day....
We both are very quiet and the vibes are a bit weird...
Not because we had enough of it... but because we knew that the upcoming ride, was going to be the last ride of this amazing trip we had.

We loaded up all the stuff in the van and parked the van next to the side of the road and unloaded the bikes.
    upload_2021-9-15_20-38-54.png

This was going to be a loop, and were going to see some different terrain and conditions.
Again, just going to let the picture speak.

We wanted to go futher on the bikes, but there was no way we could pass this with all that snow and ice...
    upload_2021-9-15_20-41-20.png

So we decided to go by foot and leave the bikes rest for an hour!
