There's a 1000 Miglia Warm Up event based near home this weekend. Saw this modest machine this afternoon . . .

Is that a lockout to prevent an accidental reverse shift?

Sarnarno. Ape 50cc belongs to the bar owner's son. Home from school, the lad would use it to fetch crates of beer or flour for the pizza. Maybe the milk for the gelato too.

Note the racing roll over bar. One week end, the local kids organised an event in an adjacent village. Seemed like two classes.
First, the loudest sound system. All winners. All far too loud to actually listen to.
Second was a start-max-stop sprint. As the event was held in the car park of the retirement home, it wasn't very big. One end was a cliff face, the other the open edge of the cliff. Lots of screaming tyres and drivers.
We sat with the rest of the oldies, judging by the gesticulations, some of the mouthing was bad. Afterwards, what was nice, all concerned repaired to a local hostelry and the old guys whooped the wipper snappers arses at some obscure card game, mostly by cheating outrageously.

    Probably the inspiration

Yesterday we drove up to Philly to see the Simeone Museum. If you haven't, do.
