I had a Simca. Not long after my car, around early 70's, your Chrysler bought them up and turned the company products into the greyest of grey porridge.... Fairly rapidly down hill until the company was worthless, then bought up by Peugeot.
Peugeot tossed all the shitty Chrysler stuff and worked with the decent stuff that came from Simca. Came up with the 205 (and sucessors) which went on to win the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers.

The 205 was a hot car, esp. in GTi mode. I owned a VW GTI Gen. 1 which I left in the States before I went to live in Rome. The 205 GTis were screaming all around Rome, man, I lusted after one of those. Alas, I was a poor student and the car was ineligible for importation into the US so it was a non-starter from the beginning. I still lust after them, though!

Has Peugeot moved to Italy now? Or, have they've been taken over by Fiat or such??

They used to be French clunker manufacturer, didn't know that they're Eye-talian now?! :dunno

Ahem...the genesis of my stream of consciousness. Well, that and the Simca that @dlearl476 posted.

    Certainment!

Don't tempt me. But having owned some temperamental Mediterranean cars (ahem) I can't imagine what ownership of a Peugeot 205 would be like in the States.
See above. It all started with a discussion about Parin Farina's MOMA masterpiece, which led to...:lol3

I worked for a Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo dealer in the 70's.
We had an 850 van that was used to take customers home and pick up parts around town.
Ours was painted red, white and green.

When I first got into cars, they were British. The local import junk yard that we scoured for parts for various Mini's, sprites, austins, MG's, had one of these. In order to get access to something up front, they'd pulled off the aluminum frunk lid and thrown it on the ground. Then run over it numerous times with a fork lift. Someone had also made off with all the Abarth bits from the engine.

Moretti-bodied Fiat 850. Looks like a baby Fiat Dino.

That Moretti is good looking. It looks like it’s doing 125 mph just sitting there. Of course, with a wheezy 850 it likely tops out under 80 mph :lol3.

This is from the best of France & Italy car show. I believe the Morretti is the Merckle Weiss car.
