I had a 97, it only had a few issues thru 100k miles. The fuel tank sensor and the steering wheel made a weird noise when cold. The spare tire bounced around a lot when on washboards but I never heard anyone else have issues with it. When I was in Kuwait we had Cherokees with the inline sixes, lots of them had 300 kilometers on them with only minor maintenance. The mechanic told me the harmonic balancer was a bit weak. I never should have traded tha Jeep in.

The Gladiator rocks IMO. Jeep knocked it out of the park. If I could swing it, Id buy one.

IMO they blew it going 4-door only. Maybe the 2-door wouldn't sell as well but it would be the only one I'd ever consider.

Yep... we got 10% sales tax around here... and insane registration fees. Figure a fully loaded Gladiator Rubicon will be $70K out the door. Which is a damn shame, 'cause I really, really want one :cry

I'm hoping one of those will be in my driveway in about 2 years. Likely the most stripped down version of the Rubicon they'll let you build...

If you think the new Wrangler prices are crazy, wait for the Gladiator. Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne announcing the model said they expect to move less than 100,000 units per year and said "it’s going to be expensive – intentionally so.” So, by their own admission, they'll be bending you over!:viking

Maybe this will make the standard 2 door wrangler cheaper, I can deal with that. Just buy that and pull a trailer which I already have.

If you want it to sit lower, get the base model with small tires.

I have been shopping for a Chevy Colorado 4x4 club cab standard bed. Looks like it is possible to get a work truck model for 28k plus tax and license. So 30 for the Jeep May be possible.

You and I are in a small minority. Several trucks are no longer available in a standard cab, and most new trucks sold are crew cab. "Experts" recommend that if you're going to sell in less than 5 years, buy the crew cab, as it's what most people want and you'll have a much larger potential audience.

I hope you're talking about a smaller utility trailer, and keeping it under a ton!

Like I said, looking for a midsize truck. In Ranger you can’t buy a standard (6 ft) bed with a crew cab, in Chevy you can, but they are almost non existent at the dealers. The Chevy club cab comes standard with the 6 ft bed. The short box on a Chevy is under 5 ft when I taped it (about 4ft 10inches).

If I want a work truck 4x4 Colorado club cab standard bed, looks to be a special order.

Honestly I’ve been waiting 20 years for them to bring out something like this. It’s not perfect (I hate 4 door Jeeps) but one might wind up in my driveway eventually regardless.

This is my all time favorite Jeep conversion..... more what I had in mind

It is floating around the web.

Apparently it was snapped in an area where no cameras are permitted. Also, some think it isn’t painted, but rather in primer. Black colored pieces were throwing a lot of people off...

Towing capacity given for a new 2 door wrangler V6 is 2000 lb. I don't know what a 7x12 utility trailer would weight. I would guess not more than 700 lbs. At any rate 2000 lbs is a ton, twice as much as the pickup.

Yeah, there's no pics allowed in the plant. I'm surprised it's out there.
It is in fact primer and some other mixed parts, as it was an early pilot vehicle. There's lots of parts missing, and I'm not sure it even runs.
I just saw it yesterday, and I measured between the wheel wells on it some months ago to see if a four-wheeler would fit in the bed.

You and a few other people. That's the problem. I can count on one hand how many regular cab trucks I've seen in the week, and there are a ton of trucks around here.

I agree though. It's kind of long for doing "Jeep" stuff. A two door would help with that a lot, even if the departure angle would be rough over a lot of things.
