fudgypup, those are great pictures. For a moment I was thinking "I don't remember fudgypup hauling around a big camera."

It was a great class, humbling but encouraging. Great group of guys to ride with.

    Here is my RR.

We stayed in Vegas (thanks Fudgy) on Friday night and woke up at 6am on Saturday. We stopped by at Jack-in-the-Box for breakfast before sun rise.

It was very chilly as we start climbing. Below 40 degF.

Bob, Larry and Mike are ready to roll on Saturday morning.

    Dry lake bed.

Jimmy and Heather made us delicious street tacos for dinner on Saturday.

Mike, Tim (testing the brand new 2011 990Adv Dakar for Motorcyclist magazine) and Eric.

    Larry.

Jimmy (on the left) and Scott (on the right) are showing us how to do it (acceleration, turns, and panic break) the right way with Eric's start.

And Jimmy wins thanks to his very tight MX style turns...

We took an exploration ride on some really nice single tracks on Sunday.

Eric had little too many beers I guess. :D
    [IMG]

Heather took tons of pictures and she said she will post them on her SmugMug account soon. Once I get my hands on them, I'll post them here.

See, I for one like these funny pics of our hijinks in Vegas/Pahrump.

Kind of reminds me of the "found pics" they show at the end of The Hangover movie.

You know, like the ones we got at the Chicken Ranch, Sheri's Ranch, The Kingdom club, etc...

Or the one of you in double bed next to Bob in all his furry glory. :lol3

LIke I said though, I'm pretty sure I deleted those. Pretty sure.

I thought what happens in Vegas...

On the other hand, your picture is taken at Shoshone, 2 hours from Vegas, where Vegas rules doesn't apply... :lol3

I got an email from the school yesterday asking what I was going to be riding. Sounds like they are trying to get bike types grouped up. Really looking forward to it. Trying to get into a spring class.

Martin, the guy who created the Tour of Idaho route, explains that he designed it to be ridden by riders with serious skills. He isn't exaggerating at all. I don't think an average rider can realistically ride the Tour of Idaho in the time he designates. If you're a good rider and have a little Dakar determination in you you can succeed, and you'll have earned certifiable badass status.

If I was a good enough rider to ride the Tour of Idaho Martin's way (I'm not) I would probably ride it his way once to be able to say I did it. But long hours riding through the night at break-neck speed means you're missing a lot of the astonishing scenery. Unless someone knows exactly what they're getting into and really wants to do it, I suggest that people cut out the first day, the last day, and possibly a few segments in the middle.

It's all fantastic riding, so if you could afford to take 8-10 days to ride you COULD do the entire route at a reasonable pace.

The first day is often a problem for people because some segments of the terrain are brutal. After all the money and time it takes to commit to the Tour of Idaho it really sucks to be taken out the first day by killing your bike or hurting yourself. I've read quit a few accounts of that happening to people attempting the ride. (I think I'm making it sound worse than it is.)

I often suggest to people that if they aren't determined to ride it as the route creator intended, they might want to start around Lava Hot Springs or Pocatello and end in Wallace. It's hard to overstate how epic the ride is.

    Here's Martin's website, Motorcyclejazz.com

that sounds great! A good challenge for the advanced rider but I will stick to the "ride your own ride" ethos that I find safer and more enjoyable.

You should organize a ride of it when it warms up for the intermediate rider that does what you were talking about; a bit slower and cutting out a few sections. That will appeal to more people and give them something to shoot for next time.

This is one of those rides I aspire to do one day like the WABDR or the Utah one.

with more skills acquired from the class, riding will be more fun.

if fudgy goes, i want IN. i also like the idea of doing the WABRD and the continental divide.

I think you were the only one other than the instructors to really get your bike to turn that tightly. Good work! :clap

I wonder why Lonestar2112 didn't post this one though
