No plan, just a nose for hops!
1mil star hotel.... with bear spray
my personal "old faithful"
Lamar Valley. Absolutely beautiful (the pic does not do it justice) all the little black dots are buffalo
And back in Cody for a last night with Kenny and PJ
Day 7 - heading east...
cool aviation museum but I would have had to wait almost an hour for it to open - so onward!
Big Horn Mountains
Prime Rib Food Truck... lousy pic, great food
that stuff got a tad squirly on these tires at times
that's all for that day...
found a cheap camp-spot at the Firehouse Brewery
and saddlebag-leftover-primerib for dinner
stopped at Robbles memorial marker
left a bit Hunter there and had a little drink with the boys...
Day 8 cont... Black Hills
and south of the Badlans - COVID stop. You check-in, get instructions not leave the Hwy and that's pretty much it.
Where's all the Harley's?
I thought the Badlands were full of them?
Sturgis is over... they all at home with respiratory issues.
I did see only one other bike - a harley - at an overlook in the Badlands. Cute guy, too bad he was on a vrod
Actually, I didn't see many bikes at all. None at Pikes Peek or RMNP, tagged behind some beemer guy in northern CO for 30 miles or so, a few in northern Yellowstone (fun lunch break crowd). And I met @helicrazyjared and his buddy at a gas station in KY. That's pretty much it.
Maybe it's just too late in the season? It got cold - 30th - at some nights in CO and WY and I used my heated grips quiet a bit riding, but nothing to bad.
Reality set in... I was behind and had to do a lot of interstate to make up for it.... I got a couple hundred miles back roads and
one lousy pic
800+ miles later I found a "Bates Motel" in MO... cheap, but close to the ferry. There was one other occupant and one long term renting couple. The clerk was drunk, the owner couldn't find the key to the room, so he gave me another room - but had not key either. It was "clean-ish"
... I had wine
and I made a friend
Day 10. Homestretch
Dorena - Hickman Ferry (just as 2 years ago on the Fly and Ride on the Guzzi)
and my spot ping in the middle of the river
Welcoming Committee.... that's the hardest part about the road trips
4300 miles - 10 days without any issues.
I love that bike - it handles great, easy to ride, and great power (too much)
Seat-height is fine in the lower setting, but I may get a pull-back for the handlebar (cables could be an issue).
One drop at a campsite (got the foot hooked in the luggage getting on) - not hard to pick up, even fully loaded.
I guess it's a keeper: tagged it the day after I got home, oil change done and fender eliminator on order.
Anybody wanna buy a V7 racer (the black guzzi) or the TigerXC (lowered for shorties)????
Great adventure, thanks for sharing.
Some great pictures!
I love the new bike. It looks good in red.
I have the MT09 in black. It's a fun bike.
Very nice trip, assume you bought a bike out West. I love the Dorena Hickman ferry and surrounding area. Badlands are beautiful. Thanks for sharing your journey !!1
Great report Silke!
Bike was found on 9/30
My ride was stolen last night in East Asheville, hope you don't mind if I post on here for the AVL peeps to keep an eye out. 2012 DRZ.
Ken that sucks to hear man. Glad you are alright.
Hope all is going well down there. I was cleaning out the top case and found the sticker I was to get to you from RDV when you stopped by for a couple hours.
Forgot about that, never got a chance to get to a RTE before I left but sure to see you guys once events can happen again.
We will keep our eyes out down here in Flat Rock
