1528655409862_1215782951_14269db7_v1.jpg another items of concern was the frame and where it connected to the sub-frame - thankful for a brother who is a pro welder to add some gusseting in all the right places.

20180814_055314.jpg Huge thanks to Task Racing for supporting this build with one of their lights - I'll do a more formal document later this summer, but needless to say it's pretty damn awesome!

20180727_221119.jpg One more little detail to complete the package - KX guru 132.5 mm dog bones for the suspension. This changes the rate on the shock and really helps keep the rear end planted in the whoops. The KX Guru group has a huge wealth of knowledge from the old glory days of the KX 500 and this is just one example of something re-created from the old experts who raced these bikes in desert and motocross.

BUILD SUMMARY.jpg A quick summary and she's finally out of the house and in the garage - just waiting on the engine and making minor tweaks.

Capture.JPG While I await the engine's arrival I started drawing up the custom brackets for the rear rack. Yeah the're are a handful of custom KX 500's out there, but this is my contribution to the dirt bike world with the only rack setup on a KX 500. On a side note we tested this in our maiden voyage to Las Vegas to go to the 2018 AIME Expo. It worked pretty well all things considered, but now in 2020 I'm re-designing this so that I can remove the seat w/o removing the rack (what a pain).

At this point in the project everything is prep'd and ready for the engine. My buddy drove up from back east and we installed the engine and made some tweaks before we headed to Las Vegas (riding hear and there along the way). This is the end of 2018.

43111076_10217821510915349_2765973386893983744_n.jpg Riding October in the North can get a little chilly - this was our first camp after leaving the Canadian border. It was about 45 and raining. Rained most that day so we chopped 8" logs of wet firewood with a survival knife until we had all the fixings for a roaring blaze.

43450467_10217821512315384_1387027991384555520_n.jpg re-fueling on the border between Idaho and Oregon (taken before picture above). This section was a narrow two track track that was crazy muddy. Not bad as long as you went fast, but a real pain to get going when we stopped.
