This is what keeps me away from riding in Mexico. It's sad because there are so many beautiful places to visit down there.

Yup, Mexico is dangerous. It's best no not travel there. If I didn't have to go, I wouldn't go there either. :deal

Im not really sure how to react to this post. I suppose on one hand thanks for the the info . On the other I really think this is overhype to be put on here for motorcyclists to worry about. Especially considering Im headed to Mex tomorrow... This article is about a cell of kidknappers who are targeting specific people mostly in TJ. Even so the kidnapping numbers are extremely low as stated in the article. There are many more here in the states. Should we be extra careful here too??

Any thoughts from other ADV riders, (not the OP) about how this article would relate to mainland Mexico and motorcyclists in Mexico in general???

    Thanks

I don't see how this has much to do with a tourist riding a MC. Especially a chubby old white gringo like me.:rofl But hey, if you're gonna let the fear of being a possible crime victim worry you, maybe its best to stay home in bed with the sheets over your head. You certainly don't want to be out on the streets of any big city in the USA.

Me, I'm going to Mexico (and other CA and SA countries) every chance I get. I find the vast majority of people there to be much friendlier than here. YMMV
    Cheers,

Not trying to make everyone worry, but I read the article today and thought that others might want to check it out as well. If nothing else, perhaps a rider will be a little extra cautious in some of the rougher areas of Mexico.

mexico was and is a safe travel destination. just use common sense and you;ll be fine. Kidnapping a biker passing thru is the last thing on any bandit's mind :rofl . i've ridden all over mexico alone and never had an issue.

Funny how if you just read the first few paragraphs, it appears these kidnappings are rampant and random. But as the article continues, it reveals that nearly all of the victims are Hispanic and have business dealings in these specific communities.

While still tragic, it is not as ominous as the headline and lead paragraph would have you believe.

Damn media is always trying to scare the crap out of you.

About a month ago the drug cartels killed several high ranking TJ police officers and their familys.A woman and her child also were killed in their home by stray bullets. They fired over 200 round at the cops car killing him and his partner. They also went into one cops house while he slept and killed him,his wifeand his daughter but not before raping the women. I found the whole story by looking it up on google.Sorry no link. On a lighter note, I leave for Baja in a month and I cant wait. Best bet is to travel in groups and stay in town at night. Dont walk back from the bar alone. BAJA rocks:1drink : :super

Mexico is a horrible place. They eat small children. Don't go there. Stay at home. Seriously, you'll be be kidnapped and force fed dog meat immediately after crossing the border.

This message has been brought to you by the Anti Gringo Influence Society / Texas Chapter. "We don't want your stinking McDonalds."
