I was on the Cassiar the same day this started. I could have passed them at some point. Maybe we need a “is Canada safe?” thread like they have for Mexico :). I’ve remote camped all over Canada and Alaska and never had an issue.

A job well done. Autopsy results soon.

I have gotten a lot of laughs out of all the suggested input from various posters.

Well done to the folks finding a boat, causing suspicious, then finding belongings and them in the end.

Good to put this to rest for the neaby folks.

The whole country of Canada has similar amount of Murders as the city of Chicago.

"The agency said there were 660 reported homicides in Canada last year. 2016"

"The city(Chicago) saw a surge in gun violence in 2016: 762 murders"

Last week, Halifax had it's first killing for 2019. It was drug related.

    Pretty good stats, overall.

Interested to hear the full report, how these 2 fuckers died. Also, they said the boat was a critical piece of evidence. I don't really understand that comment, as seeing an abandoned boat wouldn't be a big deal.

And said the boat was found upstream 8 kms from the rav4. Did they drag the boat up the shoreline with their belongings.

Chicago?...might still be known by that name to some, but mostly it's now known by it's street name, Chiraq.

anyway, i hope that the RCMP trades in the dogs they were using up there, they need some new dogs that can smell dead bodies from a reasonable distance.

Seems my 93 year old neighbor was right. He said "they didn't get far the bugs will eat them alive." Probably what happened

    everything, as I said.
I bet that we won’t hear more facts and this story will soon subside in the press.

So they kill themselves fairly close to the boat. And a few kms from the suv.

Odd that the boat and belongings weren't seen earlier.

And I don't know what a rotting body smells like and I assume animals snacked on them.

Would think the dogs would find them.

In any case. Good to see it's over.

    Condolences to the victims families.

Due to the excessive damage, I have a hard time believing the boat has anything to do with them. Reminds me of a lost or abandoned boat which lost the battle with the river ice.

Straight forward version: Rav4 burns --> Set off on foot --> Stay close to and follow river (to where, no plan for this) --> Feel the world closing in + Bugs --> Suicide

Once watched a squirrel feasting on a deer carcass, local inhabitants may have dined on these two. Maybe they really did lose their minds from the bugs coupled with losing all sense of reality due to the past couple weeks and were driven to suicide. We'll likely never know, unless they did what most kids do, recorded video/took pictures (diary of events) on their phones.

Throw in injuries after scrabbling through heavy northern forest.
I've gone through a few dozen yards of that kind of shit and wouldn't want to go any further. Imagining endless swaths of it with no possible end in sight would be enough to end me.
I too don't believe they had anything to do with the boat.

They showed up in my end of the woods (north east Alberta) and got stuck on a trail. A guy my kid knows unwittingly pulled them out of the ditch and sent them on their way.
I think they were just trying to "leave no trace" before they ended themselves.

I would lay money the CBC is already working on the script for the TV movie.
