Awesome.....Great to see the Canes legions of fans coming out the closet
All home safe and well
Reached the turn off with no problems. I gave them all a big wave and carried on.
The cat was pissed off.
Work is much better now the new princess has a name.
Princess? Cat? Where are your priorities, I've got boots to dry out!
some of us never got our boots wet
to add insult to injury, as i pushed the pd into the shed this morning I heard an expensive sounding 'clonk clonk clonk' coming from the driveshaft or gearbox..... :huh
that said - I did have a great time - Mt Rockfart (or whatever its called) was a highlight as was just about all of yesterday - the ride from Reefton to Springs - Maruria - Murchison - breaburn - golden downs forest - mangatapu then a very brisk ride around queen charlotte sounds as we thought we were late for the ferry... what an awesome group of roads - probably the best combination of roads/country I have ridden in one day.
anarchy 3's rule - and, when they arent self destructing around you due to a lack of proactive maintenance, airheads are pretty damn special as well
My favs would be Denniston to Mackley (sorry Mark), the falcon that I saw in there, Maruria Saddle, Porika, the bush Robins, all the ferns and lichens in that amazing bush and Jeff's patented boot liners.
Just so that it is on record, the KTM never missed a beat (this time).
My daughter has used up all of the broadband allowance, so it'll likely be after the 7th before I can get the pictures up. Damned dial up is so SLOW.
I had an awesome weekend. The highlight for me would have been the Mt Rochfort / Denniston / Mackley day. But it was all bloody good.
The highlight for me was either the Reefton pub crawl that Underground, Box'a'bits and I did Saturday night (ok we only made it to half the pubs in Reefton ) and Big River on Sunday........
......which about covers my ride report as thats all I got up to in the time I was there.
Why are these guys interviewing you then?
Loved my day in there and the all day breakfast.
Ride home through Springs Junction and Maruia saddle was bloody awesome, especially the Matikatikati.
No bike problems at all.
3rd group of cops I ran into on the trip, I must be starting to look like even more of a dodgy bastard
My write up and pics here:
Actually one of the highlights of the trip was meeting old Alf, and by old I mean 74years of old.
We discovered him poking around Denniston on his xr400 so promptly invited him to attend our Big River ride the next day.
As I was wiping the sleep from my eyes in the campground he shows up in his camper, bike on back and informs me he got up at 3am as he had to leave from Karamea.
Needless to say he had no trouble with Big River, but hell, what a wealth of adv riding tales! he was doing this sort of stuff when I was still learning to write my own name.
I sold a bigger tank to a guy on KB for his TTR250... "logmaker"
got a shock when he rode up on his TTR.. think he said he was 76 or 78
was a bit late as he went though lees Valley on the way down from Nelson..
hope I'm still on two wheels at that age
kool old bugger...
Hahaha yup, I look forward to catching up with him when I make it back home, we gotta get him out to one of the Marlborough dinner nights, I reckon he'd enjoy it and I know we certainly would.
Good to hear that you fellas enjoyed your time down here, there sure is some great riding in the district....
I think this is my 4th or 5th trip to Reefton
its a wonderful area to visit - you can head in any direction and find great roads and great trails
its one of my happy places
Mark S in his 'happy place'
Oh and cellphone reception.....Hell yeah!
Just thought I'd keep a couple of pics coming while we wait for Box'a'bits to get his interwebs back
Yup, Mt Rochfort to be precise
