I currently have the Olympia Switchback 2 but finding the jacket a bit to warm on a couple rides where the temperature reached 35C or 95F on the highways. Keep in mind, these are not normal temperatures in Vancouver, BC...average is ~30c or 85F in the July and August. I’m now considering the KLIM Induction jacket but would like to hear opinions from the owners of the jacket. The KLIM Karbonite is supposed to be 750% stronger than others. 840D Cordura in the high abrasion areas. What are your opinions on the KLIM Induction jacket?
Can’t directly answer your question, as I don’t have the induction, but did some research in looking for a mesh jacket. Klim’s Baja S4 seems to be getting good reviews and a few on this forum have said it vents better than the induction. I ordered this jacket and pants a few days back myself. There is an 8 page thread on this jacket/pants.
I have a few years with the Induction. I live in western Oregon. It's a great jacket. Plenty vented, but nothing is cool on a hot day. I would buy another Induction if this one wore out. Fit and finish are excellent. Two thumbs up.
I refer to my Induction as "The Refrigerator" I would definitely buy it again if I managed to wear it out.
Absolutely love my Induction. Only weird thing about it is the sizing. I've worn an XL forever, including my other Klim jacket yet the L Induction fits me better.
I love my Induction too! Not overly stiff like the BMW gear. As stated stifling hot over 75 degree! Stay reasonably dry in the wet! Yes, I would also buy another one when this wears out. The pants work just as well to boot!
I’ve been happy with mine down here in FL. Bought it this winter here in the FM, so this is my first season. Usually travel in a Latitude or Badlands. Recent trip up to NC thru middle GA. I was very comfortable. Was a little cool up on the Blue Ridge, but a long sleeve t shirt fixed that. Just picked up a second one last week, different color, so I’ll be putting the first one up for sale.
I love my induction, i wear it for daily commute in Singapore. Weather here is super hot and humid, the jacket vents really well.
The current model Induction is a nice jacket, but the D30 back armor sucks. It makes the jacket overly bulky, and if you try to roll the jacket up to fit it in your panniers or trunk, it break in half. At the price of Klim's products, you shouldn't have to drop even more money on something like decent replacement back armor. Also, based on what I've read, the current Induction sizing is a bit different than the previous models. Definitely worth trying before buying, or maybe buy from a retailer with a good return policy like Revzilla/Cycle Gear.
I have a Klim Carlsbad in a size medium, so I bought a new Induction in that size. It was too small, sent it back and din't order a large. Why? Because I have a Rev'it mesh jacket in a size large that is very comfortable and didn't feel that even if I got a large in a Klim Induction it would be as comfortable because it felt stiff to me. I've thought about getting the Klim Baja, but I know it's heavier than the Induction by almost two pounds from a comparison review. Anyway I've decided to put getting a new jacket on hold for now. If you buy new get it from Revzilla and not Klim. My experience with returns is that you'll get your money back faster, and with less hassle from Revzilla than from Klim direct.
Many Klim jackets have odd sizing away from the Large; it runs a bit smaller below that, and a bit larger above. Klim's fit patterns are biased towards belly sizes it seems, whereas the Euro numeric sizes used by other brands allow better upper body fits. I prefer the AFT Cordura stuff from Rukka myself - you can find used examples for an excellent price, and they vent through the entire garment - which is ~600d cordura equivalent.
All the motorcycle jackets I’ve tried or own has been a size small. I’m a medium in the KLIM Induction. I’ve already been at a local bike shop trying it on. For the price of the jacket I was expecting the LP2 CE level 2 pads and not the LP1 CE level 1 pads......nothing is ever perfect. Or at least give the consumers the option to upgrade to the LP2 pads based on the cost differential. I’ve decided on this color.
This is my main jacket here in Florida. It just seems to flow more air than other mesh jackets. I pair it with the Klim Latitude pants and a BMW Rain Shell. I use warm n safe heated layers in colder areas. I tried a lot of different jackets and this one just works best for me.
I love mine, pockets are in the right place, not too many of them and breathes very well. I notice the only place I sweat is where the back protector lies, I suppose you could remove it but then you give up some protection. Weather here has been 70-85 F and very high humidity (NC) and the jacket fares very well, alot better than my perforated leather jacket I wore all last summer. Have not been down in it so can't speak to the 750% better claim. I would purchase again.
Picked one up over the winter and after 5000 kms, I can say it is a great jacket. Used it on a trip to NC and the BMW Rally near Richmond VA in June. If it is cool below 60F in the morning , I can slip on my gortex liner (from previous Jacket) or a puffer coat of really cold. Provides very good wind flow even with my Helite airbag vest and it feels like a real jacket and not a mosquito mesh jacket like some lesser jackets feel. Was pricy and had considered the Revit Tornado or the Klim Marrakech.
Have had an Induction for 2 full seasons, and love it. Definitely the most comfortable hot weather jacket I've had. Southern IA can be really hot and humid in the middle of the summer, and its comfortable enough to wear in the worst of it. Obviously warmer than just a shirt, but not terribly so. For a 15- minute super-cool effect, soak it with a hose before putting it on. Cheers Dave
The Induction is great for street use. Tons of airflow and very comfortable. I almost always carry a Zephyr windshirt for the when the temp drops – packs small, very effective. But for ADV riding with off-road mix, in and out of the saddle, I’d recommend the Baja over the Induction.
