I have it on good information that Kawa will indeed release a 2019 KLR soon. It’ll be the Eagle Mike 685 and will be available in two color schemes: Original Gen 1 Green and Classic San Diego Chargers Blue & Yellow (yes, yes...I know they’ve moved on...but their colors remain cool).

I did. An hour later I regretted it. A week later V-Strom 650s went on sale for $500 more and I really regretted it.

I just spoke with the sales manager at my local Kawasaki dealership, and he informed me that he found out yesterday there would not be a 2019 model.

Manufacturers have been known to skip a model year if they have excess inventory. I believe Honda has done that with the XR650L.
And then there was Yamaha last year who delayed announcing the 2018 WR250R leading may to conclude it had been discontinued.

One bike that I wish they hadn’t stopped making or had made for another 5-10 years is the LC4 640 bikes. Very polarizing bike, but I thought they were great.

Ditto for me! I had really wanted the Wee but tried to be careful with my funds and bought a new KLR650. Then immediately found out the Wees were selling for a few hundred more than my KLR. I really cried once I did all the "required" KLR upgrades at the 1000 mile mark (2 weeks after purchase). Opened it up and the Doo was already broken. Pulled the suspension to grease everything that came ungreased. Bought the subframe upgrade bolt kit. Bought the lock nut kit for the whole bike. And the other common KLR "fixes". I ended up having more invested in my 2 week old KLR than a new Wee. And I still had an overweight bike, but mine kind of sucked on the highway too. Oh well, once the engine seized at 18k miles I didn't have to worry about it any more. (then i REALLY regretted not getting the Wee Strom!)

    I bought one new.........in 1987.
It was a remarkable machine at the time.
In 55 mph America it was even a decent highway bike.

Admitting that is like pointing out a picture of the fat, ugly chick in your high school yearbook to your mates and telling them you banged her when you were sober.
Buying a new one in 2018 is like pointing out that same fat, ugly chick in the yearbook to your mates...and she's your wife.

Maybe the Versys-X 300 is the new KLR, in Kawasaki's mind.

I've been to Japan and what in picture isn't quite normal. Yeah you see it in red district with love hotels but those tucked in quite well you can pass by and never suspect it's there.

Japanese are actually very shy and conservative in dressing.. well except when it comes to girl's shoes. And f@cking T-shirts with messages in broken English which make no grammatic and any other sense.

EDIT the biggest laugh we had was in Akihabara on 6th floor store's windows declaring "anal toy sale".. was it supposed to mean "adult toy".. or actually?

I don't have access to statistics but would not be surprised if people cross-shopped KLR and VX3 and with all honesty don't see that given decent suspension why a proper more dirt oriented bike cannot be built around Ninja 400 engine.

It would certainly cheaper for them to produce VX4 with current VX3 level suspension and R version with klx-250 suspension than design new KLR from ground up.

But this is all speculation, we will know more in 2 month.

That's the problem. Folks keep buying them bramd new.
Hell, the dealershis out sale the KLR to DR 3 to 1.

If true, I guess Kawi is crying over this one. Many years of sales revenue with zero R and D no marketing needed after 1987 and again in 2008.

Its like putting a old dog down that can still play fetch.

But, we all know this day would come.

Still think 55% odds the 2019 will be here.
