This 2000 was my first KLR. The poor thing was sitting along side the road with a for sale sign on it for $1,200. Who knew that bike would haul me across the US multiple times. Purchased with 12,000 miles and sold with nearly 50,000 on it, it ran as well the day I sold it as the day I saved it.

Alas, poor Igor. I hardly got to know you before I began harvesting your good bits to save $$$ on rebuilding another Gen One that had suffered a catastrophic mechanical misfortune. CURSE YOU DOOHICKEY!

    The one that got away...

I bought this KLR in the fall of 2016 with only 450 miles on it--essentially new. It was to be a replacement for the green 2000 I just posted some photos in the above posts. I spent the winter and an untold amount of time and money making it the exact bike I wanted. We had a number of financial setbacks in early 2017 and I am a cash and carry kind of guy (no debt), so the KLR was sold before I ever really rode it. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have sold some other bike, but this was low hanging fruit...

And one last photo, my favorite riding photo ever. Just my brother and I on KLRs, crossing the US, following the Oregon Trail, two and a half week trip from Pennsylvania home to Oregon.

That sure looks just like a stretch of road I’m very familiar with in WY.

I think that is Idaho outside of Mountain Home, if I recall correctly. I will ask my brother since he's the one that took the photo.

That pic sure evokes a feeling of freedom and some good times. You're lucky to have done it with your brother.

I decided to see how far up it was to snow today. I rode up toward Los Alamos and found too many closed roads, too many people, and I wish it were further into spring. Also I found snow and a tiny bit of red Jemez mud. Overall a success, and the KLR just purrs above 65 with the doo replaced. I did NOT enjoy the 40mph cross winds at highway speeds though, *pucker factor went to 11*.

Ahhh. My old stomping grounds. My big brother works in Pojoaque. One of my favorite roads and areas to hike is up there by Jemez Hot Springs/Battleship Rock

I’ve been really happy with the Gilman Tunnels road between Jemez springs and Fenton Lake. There are a ton of forest service roads I want to explore off of that main route, all the way up to Cuba and around the caldera. It’s going to be a busy summer if anyone wants to join me.

When I see the weather is ok, and I’m not out of town for work, I’ll try to remember to put out a call for folks so we can meet up. That would be awesome.

Went for a rip to try out the new mirrors and dash panel I made. Beautiful day.

Found some nice dirt roads yesterday. Couple of creek crossings. One of them was almost too deep and had a bit more current than I would prefer...had a little lateral movement when crossing. Found a cool spot for ripping up some hill climbs, that’s always fun. 1D3250D3-B1D9-4A33-93BE-6212262C43C4.jpeg 0A83C113-C49E-4125-B4E2-8B38330634BF.jpeg 436E46ED-844A-4C97-B262-A2648B978C36.jpeg EA07BBF3-1FCB-4E4F-B588-694990822848.jpeg B76B3EEF-999E-4E65-BBAD-3FB4EE60C0CC.jpeg 0F598566-36CD-43CE-9844-80D8779348EB.jpeg AE89763D-4D70-41B0-973D-28B665F83EF8.jpeg Gorgeous day.
