I did the test, and got about 54 vAC continuous--didn't get the up and down I expected. I also played around with the ignition coil some more, double checking it. It's all within Clymer specs--input (during cranking across both leads) came to 33 vDC (not the 18 originally stated--meter was on wrong mode). I also tried to test output of the ignition coil, since I got some input. I could not find any output (AC or DC). Plug cap and plug wires were tested, and were good. I'm assuming I should be able to measure the output, but I don't know whether it should be AC or DC. My multimeter is a pain to use when I don't know the range of expected values (e.g. if high, then it doesn't give me any indication, so I have to test multiple ranges). I also retested the stator as outlined on () Since the bike won't start, I'm not sure whether to expect the AC output (just turning it over). But the circuit continuity was consistent (i.e. no shorts). Thanks again. Suggestions anyone?
