And thus, . . . pretend it's a TWO-STROKE!
Guess I'm a lucky dog... I have an 08 and have never had a oil problem.. leaking or burning...
Gettin all my gear sorted for 2 weeks solo in the Rockies! I had hoped to leave tomorrow evening after work, but some things came up and I wont be able to get on the road until Tuesday.
I think my bike will be well enough sorted for the trip. I am still waiting for some rear brake pads, but that'll be a quick swap before I leave.
I'm set for whatever type of tire issue may come along, as well as pretty much any type of mechanical problem. I have camp food, propane stove, snacks, instant coffee, and water carrying vessels, but need to figure out an easy way to carry spare fuel. This will probably be done in a stainless steel water bottle.
I've got my tent, camp stool, hammock, and sleeping bag, and a few spare t-shirts, undies, and socks. I'll try to find a laundromat along the way when I run out of clean undies.
Working on getting my buddy's SPOT GPS tracker working, and trying out my new riding pants in hot weather tomorrow and Friday to see if I can tolerate them. I'll bring riding gear for hot or cold, wet or dry, as well as some safety items such as a first aid kit, bear spray, and my 9mm pistol.
Lots of weight, but I'll be prepared.
I'll be hauling it all in my Tacoma to Denver, parking at my cousin's house, and then heading into the abyss.
I can't wait!
We are not traveling to Colorado because of quarantine issues, may make it difficult to get groceries, etc. Not 100% sure about Colorado, but you may want to look into the states you can travel through with no issues. This virus SUCKS. Good luck, I wish the best for you and you probably have already looked into all of this. I was hoping to take my KLR out to Colorado and Arizona this summer but gonna wait. Gonna take this time to do the sub frame bolts, thermo Bob and tires. And try to get better at riding
I've done a similar trip to Grand Lake, CO to my brother's place several times, and it is never enough. My SPOT was essential given the remote areas through which you are bound to ride.
Amazing riding in an amazing place. Ride safe, avoid the 'vid, and soak it up.
Does anyone happen to have Doo tools for loan or rent? I've got a buddy whos doo I'm dooing
If anyone has them and is willing to help out let me know.
Thanks a bunch,
Hmmmm, been a while since I saw an update on the doohickey tamer
I emailed @rarepartbuilder about it a few weeks ago, and he said it was static somewhere out west like Idaho or something. I told him I'd be going as far west as maybe Utah next week if it needed some legs to get moving east again, but haven't heard anything since.
The Tamer is in Northern Utah, according to the page on FB.
Bountiful, Utah to be certain
Here's the non-fb page https://www.usdualsports.com/klr-doohickey-tamer-relay/
Yeah, I guess I forgot about the non-FB page. It's been almost a year since I drug it to Idaho, so it went into back-burner mode.
And I have the Doo tools for anyone who needs them in the Tampa area.
I've got some coming from KLR650.net
I'll put them back up on that forum when I'm done as there seems to be a few here.
Thanks for the help everyone
I did my do that month. I have EM's version if there is a need.
Zero! Side-by-sides and light weight off road only dirt bikes.
Jack+Shit = What they are still offering our lot!
Bummer, but I bet I will still like my Gen 2 better that whatever they put out...…
Or my Gen 1 too.
I rode up to this spot overlooking the tiny hamlet of Hovac, Colorado between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado. It was the best 4th of July suprise I've enjoyed in years. God Bless America and let freedom ring.
