Here I em, that's me on the new KLX450r
Posaja, I'll bet your already planning trick mods.
1) The tank you have, is it for the KLX650r? Mine is a 96. What is the capacity? Color? How much?
2) What rear fender will work on the back of the KLX650r to replace the stock one? I want a KX, or flat fender to put a different taillight on.
Won't work. A plate in MI is no good in CA ,and it's now illegal to convert to dual-sport. Hence the premium paid for plated bikes.
It doesn't exist, I made it by my own if you want you can see how I did it here
I put the KX 2002 one, but I modified the final part of the frame (quite simple thing)
I put black plastic on my KLX 650R
Do U like it?
*Cough* ACERBIS TANKS *Cough*
Got the frame back from the powder coaters today. satin black, looks great.
I had the frame sandblasted first, then wire wheel the entire frame. Gone is the bad pastel purple.
Awesome. I want to get rid of that purple on mine too!
I decieded to send some more parts to the painters, upper and lower tree, side stand, rack side plates. I think that new bronzey colour that on the new klx would be just fine.
May I ask how much getting the frame coated costed ya? Did they do the prep work for you too?
Looks VERY nice
Well a good buddy of mine said it would cost me $60 to sand blast the frame.
Well he screwed up when I got it back I was presented a $140 bill. I paid the bill. For that kind of money i would have spent an afternoon and stripped it by hand. Lesson learned, always ask for a exact quote.
The powder coating costed me $100. I have a friend who works at the paint shop. That was cost of materials of the job.
It would normally cost about $300. Remember the canadian buck is worth .85 of U.S greenback. Also everthing cost more in canada because of taxes as well as the fact that we buy 1/10 the amount of goods in comparison to the U.S .
but you make more $, & get to drink more beer.
cant you re-sleeve yours? or is it s project w/ no cylinder?
Just picked up a 96' KLX650 yesterday. Can't wait to ride it when the snow stops... Any issues in particular I should look for with this bike/ Any input would be appreciated.
1. Join the yahoo group.
2. If it isn't already, make the cam chain tensioner manual.
That is all...
post some pics of it. did you get a good deal?
I will post pics as soon as I can. I believe I did $1,550 and it is plated here in Oregon with the Baja Designs kit.
There are good instructions in the files section on the Yahoo group for fixing the cam chain tensioner. Also, the breather tube blows oil into the air box and then drips out the air box hose. There are instructions on how to fix this problem as well.
can the seat be upgraded to please a passenger? i've found a very nice '96 KLX w/7k miles locally. the passenger would ride maybe 20% of the time and for only a few hours @ a time, short camping trips, etc. she loves the suspension compared to a street bike. is it possible or do i need a KLR?
Sent the swing arm and triples out for some paint. Put some more parts on today.
