Given the announcement of the KTM 490, which appears to be the smallest of the parallel line, this thread will serve as a placeholder and resource for updates as information develops.

Maybe a bit of speculation, too.

I want the unicorn, a modern replacement to my old 640 Adv. So under 400lbs totally wet, 60ish HP, range of 275-300 miles, windshield, fairing, rear subframe, kick ass suspension and a smooth twin motor...

One article opined that the 490 would be the entry-level for KTM "premium" models, and would be aimed at the European market. At this point the bike is on KTM's road map, but anything beyond that - including the best kind of oil for it - is speculative.

It would be great to see the concept at EICMA 2020.

that is not an official KTM announcement. Those are third-party articles speculating mostly from a single graphic that apparently was leaked from ktm's parent company. we are years away from this and I look forward to a real announcement. I know there is an interview also with the head of KTM where he mentions they are developing a 490.

We might get actually almost all of what you want and I look forward to that. What do you think it's going to cost? 12-15?

I'm hoping for a price not to exceed $8,900 USD, but I'm an optimist.

Also - two Indian blogs are saying a 490 Duke will be released Jan 2021, but they didn't source their info.

With those numbers one could say the t7 is grossly overpriced because what you're talkin about is far superior and lighter than a t7 and you wanted to cost less than t7 that just doesn't add up.

So the 490 platform might be entirely Indian built too.

Many speculated that the 890 Duke/Adventure (+901 Norden) is the over-bored Euro5 version on the 790 Duke/Adventure. In turn, a few people have speculated that the 490 is the over-bored version of the single cylinder 390 Duke/Adventure that would be for environmental stringent European markets. I will also add that the blurred-out picture of the 490 Adventure looks identical to the blurred out 390 Adventure in the above linked article, which led me to that assumption.

This is the second time I have heard that the 490 will be a twin. Interesting.

I might also add: We do not know how Husky and GasGas are going to fit into all this.

I hope it is closer to the same quality and weight-focus as the 500 singles . . . rather than the 390.

    A light, quality KTM is $11 - 12k.
$8900 would be an upgraded 390, probably near, or over 400 lbs, cast wheels . . . :(

I would 'guess' it will have some cost-cutting features vs the Exc's, but will have additional electronics, fairing, windshield. 350 lbs / $11k would be nice, fill a gap, and another T7 competitor. Anything over 400, and getting too close to a 790 (for me). Really depends if it is a 'budget' ktm (like the 390's) or price/performance in line with the EXC / 790's.

Another nugget of info from that the leaked chart above (that nobody seems to mention) is they appear to be releasing a KTM 390 Enduro. (!)

490 has been a twin since word first came out, no speculation on that but anything beyond that is.
