I thought you posted that the pipe contacted the tank and melted it?
Correct, but not the pipe, the muffler! A few inches from the end of the muffler/spark arrester.
The tank melted after I got off I 15 in Utah. Had I stayed on the Highway, I would not have smelled the gas. Most likely, a spark would have exploded petrol and killed me. So yes, angry about the bikes flawed design. It's death trap.
Just to be clear - that's the stock muffler and the bike was never in an accident?
Thanks. After some thought, thinking, changed some words.
Everything is stock. But I'm a dirtbiker, of course I FELL over when I could not reach the ground with my foot (when I needed to). But no, real crashes in my opinion.
Before I took my last trip, I checked it. Because I always worried about clearance. It only had about 3/8 inch clearance at start of the trip when I left California.
Ok, I see you've deleted the other comments. Good luck on getting a tank and when you do, put an aftermarket muffler on it, immediately.
I'm planning on ripping out the entire subframe crapp, & useing cheap steel! Relocation of all electronics, battery & what notts to have about a 3 (?) inch lower seat base. Screw KTMs setup! I ain't gonna repeat the that deadly issue again. If KTM WOULD FIX THEIR SHIT ON MY 690, I'd sell it FAST!
Good luck. That is more of project than you might think.
I'm thinking of having this pipe style on both the 500 & 690. But I'm set on dumping the 690 nomatter what.
I built my house, that was something. Making a custom pavement Rat Bike will probably take me a year.
Make sure you do a build-thread...
Ready made. A rear streetbike fueltank, Lol.
Yeah. I'll be watching for it too....
