6 months in, waiting on KTM to ship a new frame under warranty, several manufacturers shipping reinforcements and a known design fault on KTM 1xxx bikes they carried over, I’d say they are a no brainer to fit given the price, piece of mind and the financial cost of KTM do not cover the breaks under warranty.

For the moment it seems some people are getting frames under warranty and some are being flat out refused despite KTM obviously knowing it’s a design fault.

Worst part is it’s such a trivial thing for KTM to fix and they carried the poor design over from older models. Road bikes have better headlight supports!

I’m sure this warning is in one of these 337 pages of posts but I ain’t got time for reading or searching all that. Just wanted to share my stupid mistake of putting crash bars on my 790 ADVR. Figured my 1290 came with crash bars so surely a good idea to throw some on the 790 right? No so much. Bottom line, do NOT install crash bars on the 790!! KTM left them off for a reason. I made the mistake of flushing $350 down the toilet on a set of Tourajunk crash bars last summer and after one slow speed slide out in the mud a couple weekends ago, the crash bar bent which bent the skid plate, the right side tank mount bracket and the skid plate mount bracket. Oh yeah, it also put a small dent in the header pipe where the bottom crash bar bolt attaches to the skid plate. We are talking about $1000+ in damaged parts all over a second gear slide out in the soft mud. The stock KTM skid and plastic tank guards would have handled this just fine. I just installed the AXP skid today. Appears to be the real deal. I’ll have to go hammer it a bit before I say too much though.

You’ve been warned. Probably not the first time either but had to share. 790 crash bars are bad mmkay....

I was going to wire one up off the back. Thinking being able to charge an item in the pannier (safe and dry) would be nice. Never did it but it would be easy. Decided I didn't need it.

I already have a charging plug connected to the battery (optimate charger) and i bought a 12v-24v thing i could connect directly to the existing plug and just route it up on the side of my bike when needed :-) Thank you all for good inputs. Cheers

I'm looking in to ordering some lower pegs. Are the 790 pegs the same from any of the other KTM models?

Pegs that fit the 690 should work.

690 pegs don’t fit the 790. All the big bike pegs do. The 790, 1090, 1190 and 1290 all have the same pegs. Not sure about lower pegs though. Who makes lower pegs? Best bang for your buck is the KTM rally pegs in my opinion. $180. Just wider though. Not lower.

Here's a link to a list I put together when I was shopping for pegs... Another reminder to check there for answers first, since its a pretty good chance you will find them.

690 pegs will fit the 790, I’m using Rade Garage pegs I originally bought for the 701.

I took the Bosley pegs off my 690 and mounted them on the 790. They fit without any mods or issues. Many others have done the same.

I stand corrected. Interesting that the foot peg part numbers are so different between the two bikes.

Does the 690 have the removable rubber part like the 790 pegs?

Why do so many 790 riders have 690 pegs on shelf? I too mounted left over pivot pegs from 690..
