It's been a while since we posted an update but we've got an update on our skid plate for the 790 :D

    The highlights:
    - two piece design to make routine maintenance easy
    - beefy rear mount that also strengthens foot peg mounts
    - works with Hepco Becker, Touratech and SWMotech crash bars (maybe others)
    - we'll likely produce it with two finishes: black and in a new white powder coat
    - hoping to start shipping near the end of October (but additional stars always have to align so please be patient)

    Some pictures...

silver vein pictured on the prototype but black will be offered instead on the production version

    and white

Thanks for your continued interest and support!

Really really nice and I do agree it is the best one that I have seen as well. Silver vain blends with engine color. Voted accordingly. I like the fact that it will work with other crashbars as well. Not sure which way I will go crash guard wise but with yours, one has options which is awesome.

The additional foot peg support is what is really clinching it for me. There is a thread out there somewhere (utube) regarding a cracked case from an upward "hit" on an ADV.
Did want to ask if you guys will have an aprox price point or range for your skid plate anytime soon. Can one pre-order?

    from their thread:
As for the design we've gone to a two piece configuration to make routine maintenance easier - the front panel and crash bars don’t need to come off for oil changes. We are not connecting to the oil pan as might be commonly thought and our rear mount attaches to the center stand mounting point. Honestly, this is the only substantial spot to mount to in this area. The rear mount is very substantial and also reinforces the foot peg mount - which has been known to break with a hit from the front due to the lack of material on the back of the engine case.

We're still working through a few product tweaks before it goes to production and pricing will follow. Once we're confident of when we'll have units available for shipping we'll likely open up the ordering process.

Sorry...got a little carried away posting and posted up the silver vein in the protoype we did. In production we'll be offering black and white versions and not the silver vein. While it looks good in the photos in reality it seems to fight the look of the bike.

OK, so can you update the voting page with pics of the black, so that we can see that and choose against the white?

Black Dog Cycle Works skidplate looks really good!

But I couldn't wait (already bent the OEM…): today I received and installed Ian Chappel's skidplate. It a an absolute PIECE OF ART!
And engine free, so to speak. Installation took about 1h30.

    Here are a few pictures.

OEM "skidplate" + plastic "crap flap" was 1500gr.

That looks like a real contender. I see that the cross mount connects to the pegs like the BDCW design, but does it also still bolt into the oil pan? Its hard to tell from the picture. Not sure which removal will be easier for oil changes though. Price? Link please?

No connection to the engine whatsoever. It looks 100% safe to me.
Removal needs only one 5mm allen key (but you will probably need to loosen other things to align everything correctly).
    345£ + shipping.

Yes, but the bike is safe now, so I can safely land it on rocks ;)
The OEM skidplate is nearly like no skid plate…

That's why we got a little carried in the posting. We built a prototype with silver vein and didn't really like how it looked color-wise on the bike. We did the white and liked it but we haven't done a prototype in the black yet. Given this we don't have photos of black version yet but will post them up as soon as we have one in hand to shoot. Sorry for creating confusion :muutt

Is there any source in the USA for replacement windshields? I got an S windscreen with my R and I can confirm it can't withstand the impact of my fat ass going over the bars! :muutt

The Puig looks good for a tall replacement, but I was hoping to have a shorty replacement for off-road inside two weeks.
