KTM would do themselves well by including a TFT display and comparable features on their next model years.

big weight and cog difference between them, so i disagree about the 8-9/10 off road behavior

The weight isn't significantly different and most riders will manage both bikes equally well or just as badly, depending on their ability. The good riders will obviously exploit the difference.

Yep, and the 790 Adventure, and most of the 790 Duke. The point being that the 1090 is starting to look mechanical compared to its hi-lo product brackets.

Depends on what 8/10,, 9/10 means to you.. the real weight numbers look like 8.8/10.. What your saying is the 790 hides its weight better than a 1090? He's probably saying otherwise,, maybe coming from an exc it seems they are both so heavy.

Personally I think the 1090 is a heart throb :raabia

But as others have noted, it is a dinosaur in a world of tech advances. For some that will be kosher. For me, that one aspect is enough to turn me away until they sort that out and add some goodies - even if they do so as an optional package. Market them as the retro 1090, and the 21st century 1090 ;) Either way when I walked into my dealer last month and saw the new 1090 I was gobsmacked. Who knows, if they do decide to advance the tech in the 1090 I may someday trade into one. The 1290 is quite nice as well. It's up to me to see what I can achieve on the 790 since I've never owned an 'adventure' bike. IF I decide I'm leaning way over towards more road duty I may just jump on a 2020 1290. All the more reason not to go hog wild modding the 790, with the exception of crap I can move over - Mosko luggage, navigation tablet with RAM mount etc.

I believe too much bottom end loss with the cat removal.

Yup - from Brani's email reply to me a few days ago:

I emailed back asking about the akropovic, and whether I could remove the decibel killers without needing an ECU adjunct or not. As well as what that would look like numbers wise (HP & Torque).

1290sar is way more road bike than I need. If the 690 was comfy and had cruise I’d be all hyped up on that. This 790r seems a good fit for my kind of current shenanigans.

I don’t think anyone expects the 1090 to survive now that the 790 is available. Doesn’t make much sense for KTM to keep 3 big V-Twin adventure bikes when they also have the 790. The rumor that I heard is that in the future they will have a single big bike with an 1150cc engine so probably back to the 1190 designation in an R and S version, with the low fuel tank from the 790 and some new technology.

That might fit the bill nicely when, and if the time comes.

i agree the 1090's days are numbered ..i said it when the 790 came out.
the 1090 was marketed as the best off road big adv ... in competition with all the bikes that 790 is.
it doesn't make sense that ktm will have 2 bikes competing with each other in the same category and market segment. specially when the only advantage the 1090 has is HP.
if you pay attention it is happening with the 690 and 701 as well. the new 690 has more of an adv vibe this year with electronics etc.. compared to the 701.
