My bike is still apart so it would be an easy install...cough cough.
3-5 pushes on a cold start since new.

While waiting for connectors to show up, you could chill your IAT sensor in a glass of ice water for a min or so. I wouldn’t take it out of the glass to install it (giving it time to warm back up). The wire harness should allow it to reach into the glass. Then try a cold start. Is it about 60F in your area now?

It’s been cold the last few days. It may be close to that inland Sunday, but not here on the coast. At this very second though, my fuel tank is bone dry and just hanging out in place.

Has doing a throttle relearn been tested? Kill switch to run and slowly turn throttle to full and slowly back to zero and start.

I've been having good luck with the earlier mentioned technique of Key on, let sit for 20 sec/till fuel pump re-primes and Then hit the start. Working every time thus far.

Yeah. I posted about this as well.
So far, minimum twice a day (commuting) starts every time.
Key on while putting gear on.
System has scanned and primed everything by the time I’m ready to ride.
    Fires up and I’m gone.
No problems with my 2020 790r

Seems like we have a sleepy PCM that needs to get its 'bearings' before its 100% ready to do its thing. Now if I could figure out what kind of coffee it likes...... :photog

I have tried the last 4 days starting different ways and it makes no difference.
Just poke the button and she fires up first time every time.
Been like that for months since the last update.

My 890 occasionally even only runs on 1 cilinder after starting with 1.000km on the clock.

Mine hasn't done it once this season. It look like it only do it under hot and humid weather.

I haven't had the problem in a very long time either... And I ride my bike everyday. I have even started pushing the button right after I turn the key... While the pump is running, and it seems even better.

The bike is either smarter, or someone found that dead cat for me and nailed it to the tree.

Mine is still taking a few tries.
I found a dead bird this afternoon, but no cat.

Here in SA we have a low octane map available, after loading it mine improved but would occasionally still require a few tries. Since about 6 months ago it has started first time every time, as long as I wait until the fuel pump has stopped whining. Recently I fitted the Rotti intake and a Rapid Bike Racing, after installing them it took a few tries to start for two days but now I'm happy to say I'm back to first time starting. Is anyone who has the RB and Rotti experiencing the srating issues?

Finally got out for a ride yesterday around 4pm. 68 degrees and sunny (very rare for these parts). 4 tries till steady idle before the ride. Went to play disc golf. After 18 holes and a few bevvies, it was 2 tries before steady idle for the ride home. None of this bothers me like it seems to bother others. Just reporting for the common good of the brethren.

The male connectors I ordered finally arrived a couple weeks ago. I built up one assembly and tested it on my bike. It offsets the IAT sensor value about 20C, for the first 10s upon turning on the key switch. I can see using an oscilloscope to monitor injector pulse width, that initially there is more fuel being injected. My bike rarely fails to remain running after the 1st attempt, so isn’t a good test victim.

I’ve just yesterday and today ridden my bike with this installed, and found no ill effects. I was able to tuck it out of the seat’s way as shown in the 2nd pic.

If you’d like to try this, to see if it helps your bike stay idling, I will send it to you. Just PM me where to ship it.
