i have been running the aux tank and it works perfect. the tank will hold about 1.65 gallons stock. i also have the dirt bag racks. awesome work BB
I, too, would love to see some pics of the mount points, the fuel tap, and the tank on the bike from various angles. I assume that the tank is compatible with your Dirt Bagz racks? For those who may be looking for a lightweight luggage option for the SE, Berg's custom made racks for the Dirt Bagz are very nicely made. I installed a set on my bike a few weeks ago and am very pleased with them. Once concern that I have about the Baja Designs tank is that it is fairly vulnerable in the event of a tipover. I had one installed on a 450EXC and dropped the bike on its left side. The tank got pushed in and interfered with the rear wheel a bit and it wasn't easy to completely resolve this. A three point mount might add a bit more stability. Just something to think about.
Ok, This is long over due so here are some pictures of the mounting. There are three mounting points on the tank and two mounting points on the sub frame. The round tube is made of 3/4 .065 4130 it is very strong. I personally have about 4500 miles on the tank with no problems. I have dropped the bike on the tank side more times than I would like to admit, have had a 30 mph low side with no damage. I have to admit I have always had my dirt bags racks on the bike and they do help protect the tank some. I also have the racks for sale. There is probably about 10,000 + miles combined on all the tanks that have sold and I have not had any reports of damage. I do not in any way believe that the tank is indestructible. You must keep in mind that the bike is 430+ pounds and if dropped just right on the tank there will more than likely be some damage. I will sell all replace parts at my cost if tank or mounts are damaged. Berg
KKtos The best that I have done is 226, that was on big dirt roads running 70-75 mph. The norm seems to be in the 170-200 depending on how you are ridding. If I remember correctly Gaspipe has the all time wost at 130. Total capacity is 3.7 main 1.7 aux = 5.4 Berg
which means converted in normal measures - best range was 364kms doing a 113km/h - norm is 274kms - 322kms - worst (but with gaspipe riding) 209kms Total capacity is 14 liters main + 6.4 liters aux = 20.44 liters
Is there a dyno chart available for the HT 2-1 exhaust? I find the +13 RWHP claim to be a more than a little extravagant, especially given what we have seen with Ned's/Blackdogs 2-1 dynos. I don't know if you have any affiliation with HT, just figured I would ask.
Mutt I have no affiliation with HT and I have not used one of there pipes. I would be very surprised if there is any difference in hp numbers to Ned's setup. As for a dyno chart if there is not one on there site give them a call. Berg
I just installed BBriggs' Aux Side Tank today. Mounts up clean and neat. Took my time and finished in 40 minutes. Kit is complete with all hardware, petcock, and fuel line. Thanks Berg.... I'll report back after some AZ torture tests.
Did a 120 mile loop though mixed gavel, sand, rock and some boulder infested washes. I guess the biggest compliment I can give the new tank is, I didn't even notice it was there. No perceptable change in the handling or weight distribution. Ran with the main tank off to see the milage on the aux. tank, 61 miles before I had to turn the main on. That will give me a total range of 183 miles. Just what I was looking for! Great work Berg!
I'm pretty consistently getting about 170 miles of dirt from this setup now, and over 200 if I baby the throttle/cruise.
Just got back from a 1000+ mile run in Baja where the Aux Tank was great! I had ample time to shoot pics while others had to refill their tanks.
Wonderful! They carry the weight, pack nicely and take a hit well. The bags and racks had several encounters with axle deep Baja sand....:huh Thanks Berg!!!!
