    Hi,

Sorry to bring this up again. I'm thinking of selling my WR and doing all offroading with my Adventure as well... but erhm considered the fact that a new sprayed tank costs a fortune I'd rather have some protection.
I tried to check some alternatives in a previous post but it seems that crash bars are the only good alternative...
I remember someone who had the new hepco & backer ones... Who was it?
What do they weight, don't they look like a bolted on bullbar that makes the adventure look like a truck?
I've seen the motobau ones, and they are VERY nice but I seriously doubt their crash-worthiness...

    Thanks,

    Dominique

Well, Not to rain on your parade but,...my experience with the Hepco and Becker crash bars was less than stellar and they no longer reside on my bike.
After toiling to get them mounted, I noticed that the top front cross brace did not meet the left hand crash bar but, since it was perhaps only a few screw turns off I tried to push them together and tighten the bolt. This resulted in the top brace (which is begging for redesign) failing without a single mile ridden. Also, if you own a pre-2004 bike, be prepared to sacrafice some front fork travel and buy extra bits to make the front fennder clear this top brace by lowering it.
I don't need to tell you how idiotic it is having your front fender LOWER than the maximum travel of your forks!
The vibes from the engine also made the cross brace bar begin to rub holes in my fuel tank. I forwarded a message to Hepco and Becker via their distributor Euro-Tech motorsports that I would withhold a review on their product until they had a chance to respond to my complaints and observations about how the front brace should be redesigned to accomodate pre-2004 bikes and be made stronger (should be made of same flat steel that tank cross brace is made of) but, have I STILL have not gotten a reply in 60 days other than that I supposedly recieved the "redesigned" model.
Another annoyance was that when I went to dab (put my foot forward and down) I would tag the bars with the inner lower knee. This is not a problem until you have done it at 50 stop lights and the cumulative effect begins to turn into a bruise. Also at certain RPMs the bars tend to produce a harmonic tuning fork vibe. I think with a redesign of the front/top cross brace and a change in the bend to accomodate dabbing, these bars would be great, but, until that happens you won't be seeing them on my bike.

Remember that thread of the guy that made his own? Kind of a crazy Mad Max look to 'em? If the HBs are such shit... then the choices left are few.
Find the dude that made the ones I refered to, or get those CF jobs from Japan.

Christ...those Nippon CF panels cost more than the list price of my first m/c.

I'm thinkin' the faux-sheisse CF like I see slapped on the Creeper Special is the way to go.

Where'd ya source the stuff you used, Senor Creeper? :D

    Hey Creeper,

I am pretty damn good actually. I had an interview for a dream job (fingers crossed) and pregnant (3 months to popsicle jr.) mrs popsicle and i moved into a nicer rental - a full (little for your area) house that has a good sized garage!!! Now I can actually work on my bike in peace and spread out and well damn its a great change.

    How'you? :ear

I don't remember the thread of the mad max protectors, but the Line-X fellas look that way. Your MotoBau has some protectors that I am lookin at right now (and a petcock protector)...

I don't think our definitions of a "head shop" are the same. What the fuck is a roustabout? Is that anything like a longshoreman?
