Are the new two-stroke TPI bikes special enough to deserve a dedicated owner's thread? Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, I don't know, but I'm starting a thread anyway. Let's see where this goes...

So I just picked up a new KTM 250 XC-W TPI this week and I'm anxious to get it out for the first ride, but first things first... gotta use protection...

At 5’9” with a 32” inseam, the stock seat put me on my tippy toes, which for me with my riding skills means a lot of low speed tip-overs. I’m working on my static balance, but it’s nice to be able to get a foot down and have some leverage when needed. Lowering the suspension isn’t something I’d even consider on a bike like this, but there’s lots of foam in the stock seat to work with so it was time to cut down the seat. I’ve done this on two other dirt bikes with good results, so for me this was a no-brainer mod...

It’s always a good idea to measure and mark both sides of the foam before you start grinding so the final result is even on both sides and the seat has a smooth contour...

Here it is after slowly and gently sanding the foam with a variable speed 4-1/2" disc grinder on the lowest speed with a coarse sanding disc...

    Reattaching the seat cover...

Start by stapling both ends, making sure the cover is centered and slightly stretched...

Staple each side in the middle making sure it’s centered and stretched tight enough that the cover follows the contour of the foam...

I took almost 2" of foam off the lowest part of the seat. This will give me all the leverage I need when I really have to put a foot down and will mean the difference between a dab or a tip-over.

I'm following along. It would be nice to pick up a TPI probably a 300 when they hit the states.

I thought about waiting for the 300 but decided to just bite the bullet and get the 250 now. I'll ride it for a year and then consider putting a 300 kit on it next year if I feel like I need more low-end grunt.

Does anyone know how many injected two strokes are coming to the states. Here in Canada there's 9 KTM and 9 Husqvarna. The dealerships can't take down payments for one.

    I've got a deposit on 1. Supposedly I'm 3rd in line on a 300 husky.

Did the dealer give you an ETA for when the 300s will start arriving?

None of my local dealers had an idea better then late this year or early next year.

That’s why I jumped on the husky 250 from Munn

I do know where 2 ktm tpi bikes are if anyone is interested
