Nah not yet but he asked the question to KTM after I was in there the other day and they don't know anything about price or ordering them yet so I guess it just a waiting game.
Glad I didn't get one of those common normal old R models:D

I was tempted to put a deposit down but then I heard rumours of an Erzberg limited edition model coming soon with cone valve forks :lol3

I'm pretty happy with the CFMoto quad I acquired a few months back, good thing so far.

So, will the price of a KTM drop when it's got a ‘Made in China’ sticker on it?

No, but the quality is expected to improve sharply

While at this moment I wouldn't buy a Chinese made vehicle of any type, China's current push to develop hi tech products (especially through partnerships with western companies) will see a company such as CFMoto producting a very high quality product in the very near future. But of course the final cost could be marked up to just under similar spec Japanese bikes to maximise profit.

WIth regard to a motorbike fitted with the LC8, this engine is a sorted and soild unit, and with design imput from KTM for the chassis, this could be a very good buy. The only potential failing could be the quality of the fueling, suspenion and braking packages fitted the bike to get it under a specific price point.

The Chinese have a long way to go for western customers to believe they can consistently build to quality standards. Customers in the west expect low pricing from China to offset that perceived risk, then there's the likely hit you will have on resale!

By way of example......Shanghai-based Chinese state-owned automotive SAIC Motors designs, develops and markets cars sold under the old British MG marque. You can buy a brand new MG sedan for $23K NZ :lol3 Put 50K Klm's on it and whats its gonna be worth...$10K if ya lucky?

I bet KTM won't be making a big deal to their customers about where their new bike was made.

The Chinese can build good quality stuff, like iphones for example, if it's designed in the West. But the products designed in China have a long way to go to match the quality of western products.

I'd be happy to buy a bike from the factory that made this

Surpassed even the Honda firefighter for long-term reliability

So just been back in the see my dealer and ask if he wanted some money so he rang KTM Australia while I was there and told them he has a guy standing here with a hand full of cash wanting to put down a deposit on the new 790 Rally. Well the story is that they don't know anything about the new Rally yet, how much they are , when they turn up, how many they're getting or if they're getting any at all and with the take over from KTM them selves happening in the next week or so things are a bit up in the air.
Guess I'll just have to wait a while yet and go ride one of my other Orange bikes :D

Can't remember if I asked this before, but one of the local bike shops is Yamaha/KTM. Just wondered how they market the 2 bikes that are sitting on the same floor?

"Here's the KTM, very shiny, lots of buttons, but exxy"
" Or over here is the Tenere, maybe not so swish, but hey it's cheap"

    Or is that too simple?

I don't think that's even a conversation that will ever take place.
Bloke walks into the stealership with his KTM hat, KTM shirt on and gets out of his super clean 4wd with the ready to race sticker on the back window, salesman is already rubbing his hands together and clicking on the extras catalogue link.
He's not mentioning a cheaper option.

I also can't imagine a scenario where anyone who's a KTM fan walks in the door with their near $30k for their optioned up 790 and rides out on the Tenere or even considers that an option. Yeah they may wander over and kick the tyres but if this forum is anything to go buy, it's only gonna happen so they can get look at it as a talking point later to justify their purchase.

I'd be pretty stoked to test ride both back to back at the same stealership though!

Yeah some good points there, I guess people are "rusted on" one way or the other.
And, if you're the dealership [ in my case Mandurah KTM/Yamaha ] it's probably a delicious spot to be in.....
