this road on the left leading into the background was hell. It was the famous Voortrekker Trail, which is known to be pretty damn technical, and because this place was cut off (all roads washed out by the heavy rains - they were having to get EMS the next day to helicopter supplies in - we got in via the river :D) due to rains, this trail was made 10x worse. We made it of course, though the permit lady said we wouldnt likely make it, cos EMS hadnt even been able to reach them yet.

She charged us only R50 to do the trail, instead of R150 for bikes, cos of the condition. Suffice to say, the river between us and the trail is where my blackberry went to heaven, as did my camera. I havent been so bummed at not being able to take pics in my life. The carnage on the bikes was extreme, and the going extraordinarily tough. We had to build a road in a hard running river, as it had wiped out the road. That took us 2hrs, and we had to lift rocks as heavy as 150pounds to make them stay in the running water. The smaller ones just got pushed downriver as soon as we put them in place. UNreal. For the love of a camera.

We had no idea how prophetic the dogs danglies were for us, in the coming photos, before we left.

and we looked like this great old guy, and prolly felt like him too, after making the trail.

Next will be Knysna, which we were supposed to make in 1-2 days, but which took us 4-5.
