To be truly perfect it would need to look like this

Very seriously considering it (or possibly a current Burgman 400), but no haven't yet bought. I hope to start test sitting them next week. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the colors Kymco gave us for the AK seem disappointingly similar (silver and grey?!). I'm hoping they look better in person.

I am interested as well by the AK550, but yeah not really a big fan of kymco I am looking for a Tmax ABS but very hard to find and price are ridiculously high for used ones. I really hope Yamaha will bring the Tmax back or I will finish buying this AK offering boring colors.

i wish they'd bring that TMAX/tech max edition with the electronically adjustable windscreen and cruise control to the US
but... it is 15K in europe and they sell a whole lot of them
don't think it would sell in the US for that price
why honda doesn't bring the X-ADV to the US.... also 15K

Yes I agree. when I was living in France I had the Tmax DX, black Mat, with the electronic windshield, cruise control and heated grips. I bought it 13,000 euro and I loved it, enjoyed every trip, and the price is high yes but yamaha know they will sell it and it could be the problem. We saw every generation getting pricier. Too much tmax lovers there lol. This is so convenient everyday, all about practicality and sportivity with Tmax, easy to ride, enough room for your full face helmet and some other stuff..
I agree that 15 k is a lot for the new 560. But people still buying it and that even makes the old generation tmax prices higher than they should be.
Anyway Yamaha is ridiculous to not bring it in the US.
At least they could allow interested people buy on special order or something similar.

    i agree with you
i love my XMAX 300... and the TMAX 560 TECH MAX would be very interesting to me
IF i could get over that 15K price tag

If the AK550 were not a Kymco, it would cost >20% more. So, we need to either accept the perceived drawbacks of that brand, or accept paying $11K for something similar. Yamaha says that not enough of us will accept that price, therefore, U.S. buyers are left no choice in this category but to accept the possible drawbacks of Kymco.

but... the AK 550 has a couple or glaring quirks...
    1. you cannot adjust the windscreen without a tool... CRAZY on a 9K scooter... for example the 6K KTM 390 Adventure has a 2-position, adjust on-the-fly windscreen
    2. the mirrors are a mile in front of the rider... there is NO PLACE to attach a RAM mount... no place to mount a cell phone MOST of us use for navigation, etc
    .........................
there are other things, but these are 2 i find very, very odd

I couldn't really understand your frustration. What exactly you DON't like about keyless systems?

They key itself acts as a receiver/transmitter to the car. If by any chance you are out of battery on the keyfob you can still use the actual key on the remote. The actual key that you would carry with you anyway if you did not had a keyless system.

Can I take that to mean that you would not hesitate to buy another Kymco, especially re: reliability?

I'm fortunate enough to have 2 or 3 dealers within 50 miles, but wonder how likely I am to need them.

I am impressed by the People at Kymco USA they really are quick to respond to my inquiry as to who in my area has one of these bikes in there showroom . I sent them an email last night at 11:56 this morning I received a call and then a quick call after they located a few bikes for me to go look at . Both of the dealers that have them are no more than 40 miles away and good dealerships for sure .

"The company was founded in 1963 after splitting from Honda. KYMCO originally made parts for Honda. The company built its first complete scooter in 1970 and began marketing under the "KYMCO" brand name in 1992. In the 2000s, Kymco became the largest scooter manufacturer in Taiwan, and the fifth largest scooter manufacturer worldwide. In early 2008, KYMCO was chosen by BMW to supply the engines for their G450 X Enduro bike. The optional range extender in the BMW i3 is also supplied by Kymco. In late 2013, Kawasaki announced that their new J300 scooter is manufactured in partnership with Kymco. It is based on a Kymco Downtown 300i."

    a great read
BMWs scooters seems to take a DOWNHILL TURN after they ended their relationship with Kymco
    i love my Like
i'd be interested in the AK550... IF i thought it gave me ANYTHING i can't get from my XMAX.... which, it does not
IF it has the electrically adjustable windscreen or cruise control of the TMAX tech max.... that would be one thing
    but..
    compared to the XMAX
    - MUCH less range
    - MUCH less carrying capacity
    - MUCH heavier
... the 3 things above can also be said about the TMAX, of course

    Compared to the XMAX
    - MUCH more power
    - MUCH better suspension

    Depends on priorities and needs.
